Like I said, that boulder does DRASTICALLY more damage than his regular hits, I don't think getting more defense is going to help. I think he was designed as a boss with an almost insta kill attack but can be avoided some how.
If you cannot dodge him, get a pet , get agro then run circles and let the pet do the work.
If all else fails, get better equipment.
If dodge really is just temporary invincibilty (I remember reading that it was I think) then I just gotta learn how to time it better.
It also would REALLY be a lot easier to hit and run if the smash move wasn't also the same button as the dodge. Standing still just to do it can get me killed, and sometimes I end up dodging when I meant to smash.
Okay, going to sleep for sure now. Will try whatever is said tomorrow.
what? dont run away from a mage as a warrior unless you're getting out of LoS to chug a potion; youll just take damage and lose out on potential (war frenzy) healing for no reason
@OP enemy meteors are really damn strong and you have only a tiny window to react as melee; if you absolutely cant dodge or survive it your only options are chugging a sanity potion (mag res) or hoping it doesnt cast fireballs before you can kill it
Wait until you deal with the tornado mages in the battle towers & it' doesn't have a pillar to run around lol. them guys are brutal unless you have top notch gear.
Also don't under estimate the usefulness of potions. Make the HP, power, resist, armor potions. They have made all the difference for me in some fights. Was having trouble with a mage in a tower, my gear topped off, he was a legendary too. The resist potion, I took about 2/3 less dmg.
All potions gone, instantly.
Still haven't defeated him. Blue weapon and armor level.
I managed to get a pet collie buddy, but....nope. He meteored my poor dog into oblivion in one hit and did the same with me.
Then I tried again, but this time I was lucky enough that some random frog adventurers were wandering around, so I dragged him towards them. Two of the adventurers died almost immediately, and he ignored my dog. But then an idea hit me and I tried a very unorthodox method: I circled around a tree while waiting for my skills to recharge, all the while the dog and remaining frog attacked him.
I don't know if the dog or the adventurer did most of the work and helped, but I did notice something while circling the tree: he never used his stupid meteor attack.
After being pretty much convinced that the meteor is just ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to dodge, I realized that's the exact same type of attack as.......Doom 2's Archvile.

Yeah, that thing. I'm almost convinced the meteor the cultist shoots for that meteor attack is just for show, since it pretty much just disappears mid-air and hits me regardless of where I'm actually standing. As long as he casts it, I "will" get it. In Doom, this is what is called a "hitscan" attack, (bullets, shotgun shells, BFG) while plasma shots and rockets are projectile.
So I tried to do what any Doomer does when fighting an Archvile, keep out of their line of sight. The entire time I was circling the tree he pretty much never used his meteor attack.
If this is really how the meteor attack is programmed, it's rather stupid design for a game that is not designed as a shooter. The Arch-Vile in Doom is easier to fight than this guy simply because the arch-vile's charge time is reasonable. It hurts just as much, but at least you have a standing chance to avoid it.
Here, it's a fraction of a second, and bam, dead.
unless im misunderstanding what youre trying to say; no it isnt, fireball is only hard to dodge in melee, for characters at range its very easy to avoid altogether (because you get longer to recognise whats happening)
