Cube World Beginner Guide - Permanent Progression
Cube World is different to the alpha. People don't like it. I do. I think it has longevity.

Firstly, lets get it out of the way. Your gear is locked to the region you found it in. If you leave, it's basically useless. Except for gear with a + next to it. I've seen + gear all the way up to purple (not sure if gold has + gear)

What does this mean for the player? The goal is not collecting artifacts - they are mostly useless, but some stuff does help over time, especially swimming when exploring ocean biomes, since they are also the easiest to explore. The goal is crafting + gear, so you don't become useless from region to region. That's the real game.

So how to do this?

In a zone, there will be points of interest (POI) - you can discover these POI by talking to NPCs or just walking to interesting looking spots on the map. You can start to recognise them after a while. Fight the mobs there, kill the boss or whatever and you'll get items - sometimes just a powerful item for that zone, sometimes a weapon.

You should hit B and check your weapon and armor rating. Generally you can attempt a quest with the same weapon rating as yours, armor is not as important if you are skilled with rolling and kiting, but careful, because even if your weapon is green or purple, if your armor is lower, the mobs will kill you quick. You should start by clearing out the white POI (1 star). A POI will always show white until you discover the boss, or an NPC tells you, but you can tell the level when you get there by the colour of the mobs at the zone, usually. Some areas have a range of mobs (Mana Pumps for example).

Some items that drop are crafting books - there are 3 in each zone. These will let you craft new items, and you can craft these anywhere, not just in the zone you got the book (I am not 100% sure on this, will need to check). Sometimes you will learn a + gear item. I've seen + purples be craftable.

And this is the game loop - go to a new region, collect gear for that region, find the crafting manuals, collect resources for crafting, collect artifacts to help you move faster, etc and repeat, slowly building up your + gear to become more and more powerful, permanently.

So this is, I think, Wollay's vision - not collecting artifacts, those are helpful but not great, but the long term game is permanent levelling via + gear items.

plus gear only works in the surrounding region from where you found it.

I would still need to recraft + gear every other region though? The + gear only works in regions adjacent to the one you got it in.

Yep, the only thing that is permanant are the artifacts that are all but useless.

Can confirm, only works in adjacent regions. I tested this by crafting a yellow + sword then teleported to my starting region. Went from dealing 65.5 damage to 2.

+ gear works in a square around the region u found it, sometimes it goes 2 regions distance cus of it.

Well, if that's the case, bummer.

You can get round the region lock with a hack but that makes so you can just clear regions without much effort.

That isn't progression, that is a gameplay loop.
You aren't getting stronger, you are starting over and building back up to the cutoff point.

I was under the impression that + gear didn't reset, and you could eventually craft enough that you wouldn't reset. Turns out + gear only works in adjacent regions.

This. This is the mindset of all who are complaining.
"Give me everything now! I don't want to be challenged! I don't want to have to work for anything!"

You would need to find the crafting books in every 1-2 regions and craft your + gear all over again, it's never permanent.

It's a ♥♥♥♥ system, and an excuse to have each region be exactly the same as the previous one.

But they aren't. And it's not really that different to a normal progression. For example, a normal game you might go like this

Region 1 : Levels 1 - 5
Region 2 : Levels 6- 10
Region 3 : Levels 11 - 15

So every region you are starting over from the base level, relatively.

In CW, it just resets it so your stats are baseline when you move a region. Why would you ever return to a previous region? There is no point (at this stage).

Because some people enjoy exploring. ALSO, in other games where region is levelled, you get a sense of permanent progression. You're not being lied to by a system like wollays.
Because usually a level 5 mob can't one-shot you in other games. It'll be hard to fight them at level 1 or 2, but probably not as impossible as the difficulty gap between individual tiers inside a single region right now.

The issue lies with having to dodge what feels like 70% of the quests and enemies you encounter to not get oneshot.
