How does the Multiplayer work in this game?
Private hosted servers? Server lobby? 2 players maximum?

I don't know everything yet but i think that it's 4 player steam multiplayer.
(Invite friends to your game from your steam friends list)

Definitely not limited to 4, I played in a 7 player lobby the other day

its peer to peer. one player acts as host and people join him via invite through the friends list.

careful who you have as friends though. some people are reporting players invading peoples games and editing their faction so they can PvP.
