Alpha was a better experience overall.
Thats the inherit risk of preordering or crowd funding things. I respect that there are probably a fair portion of people who bought it solely to support the future development but you should have known the risks.
For me as well as I think most people while the promises for the future were alluring I bought the game cause I wanted to play that version of it right then and hopes of whats to come were a bonus. Even in a buggy incomplete state I had hundreds of hours in the game and had enough skill points that if I put them all in boat speed I could outrun the world generation and cross an entire ocean biome in less than a minute.
Agree with both these posts.
I feel like it was more about the fact that we were all on board for a slow progress and active community, no matter how long it took.
This was then followed directly by over a year of absolutely 0 communication from the developers and then the game was taken down from the website with minimal explanation.
I would not go so far as to say that I "got my money's worth" back in the day. I paid to support the development of the game, not to grind it endlessly in an unfinished state. However, that was supported by empty promises and being "iced out" by the developers.
the otherway around is a really sad and ashamed german citizen that was too young and got his dream shattered
Sorry for double posting.
The "Beta" key offered on the official site is in fact the full version of the game. It just didn't swap over from saying "on wishlist" to "in library" quickly after activated and installed.
Really I think the Ddos thing messed him up. The slow dribble of info and work we got back then was really slow but it was building least I felt up to something great. However after the hiatus he changed went cold turkey and straight up said LALA to the outside world.
Which has me think he will not change anything because maybe he don't know how to deal with pressure very well? Some people are like that. But he needed a PR person if that stuff bothers him more. His wife can only do so much 2. Or maybe she didn't do enough? who knows...
Yes i spent a lot of time playing the alpha. But guess what, it was an alpha. If I spend money on those I hope there will be a finished product some time.
Yeah the product is finished now - but it is not the one I backed.
While I personally am not a fan of developers bending to absolutely everything the community has to say, this community has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ big reason.
Even if you like the game in its current state. That is totally fine.
You cannot tell me that you do not understand the way people are feeling about the completely different mechanics.
My intent with this thread was more to remind people that no matter how bad they think the experience is now we all AT ONE POINT had fun with the game and that can't really be taken away and in fact couldn't have been experienced legally unless you bought it 6 years ago.
One bad update doesn't ruin everything that came before. It can only ruin whats to come after.
♥♥♥♥ me, right?
