In response to all the hate..
Let me specify what this thread talks to. The people in the community that are being downright toxic. Criticism is one thing, but I see people saying ♥♥♥♥ like "sell the game so someone can fix this mess" the game isn't broken. Some criticisms make sense, like in the thread below a user talks about how starting gear should be stronger. That's a good criticism, but I still stand by my points about gear progression. It's the same loop that many RPG's use except its not "my legendary is now replaced by a common", it's "my legendary is a common in this zone."

I'm wondering if your hate is from having to wait without information or, because the game isn't fun? If you claim the latter then you couldn't possibly have had fun in the alpha, because the gameplay is nearly identical. I'm going to put the most common reasons people hate on Cube World and tell you why you're wrong using logic.

We had to wait 6 years for an update

You had to wait 8 years for Red Dead 2 to release you just didn't get to play it early in it's development. And when alpha released Wollay stated the game wouldn't recieve updates the way minecraft did in it's alpha-release stages.

We didn't get any information about the game, and now we don't know how to play

Wollay has always been a reclusive dev when he works on projects, this behavior was nothing new. As far as people saying they don't know how to play, I didn't read any hints from wollay and somehow learned how to play the game in less than 10 minutes. Not every game needs a tutorial, the only valid point was made by Swagger and Fitz in saying new players should start near towns and now they do.

Region locked gear is an idiotic game mechanic

Yet somehow it's worked for WoW and nearly every other MMO out there. New expantion = My legendary gear is now ♥♥♥♥. I also have a counter question for people who make this complaint, if Wollay instead of resetting your gear just made each new zone you go into harder and harder, so you start fighting ogres then ogre+ then ogre++, what would be the difference, it's literally the same thing the only thing that happens is your stats go up and up. In alpha the mobs spawned to your level, that's the same mechanic, it's just visually different. People love borderlands and it also has this mechanic, again it's completely visual and only in your head that you've 'lost progress' Because the fact is when you go back to the first zone you still have legendary gear, and if you manage to get yourself + gear it doesn't matter. I do think there should be something to work towards in total, but progression right now is based on completing areas and finding artifacts.

As far as losing reigns/boat/hang glider, this is also done in WoW and other MMO/RPGs where you enter a new expantion zone and now you have to do some quest to be able to fly in that area, nothing new the only difference is how abrupt it seems to your eyes.

There's no XP anymore

Honestly this one is probably the most idiotic reason to hate Cube World. Why do you need xp, what does that add to the game? This game takes inspiration clearly from LoZ and there is no XP in LoZ.

My honest opinion of Cube World

After playing for hours and nearly completing my first zone here's my opinion. The game is great honestly. I've had so much fun playing so far and I can't wait to finish this zone and explore a new one. I don't feel like I'm grinding anymore, I don't feel like every quest is just go kill x and retrieve x. I feel like I'm going out and exploring and finding good loot and gaining power through artifacts. I feel like a story is unfolding in the lore. This game has a lot to offer already as far as replay value, and it has plenty of potential and room for improvement as well. I have faith in Wollay and know that he will continue on this game as he has the last 6 years. My friends and I are having a blast playing in beta, and I hope people can step back cool off and see the similarity the game mechanics have to larger more famous games they probably loved playing. I hope people can put the anger they have for the silence behind them and play the game long enough to have fun with it. The only changes I'd like to see are more customizability for weapons/gear. Gem sloting might be cool. Maybe a Kindom and World objective to work towards as far as gear/abilities go(this might be in the game and nobody knows because nobody has gotten that far yet.) Possibly more skills in the future that players can swap out in each class. So instead of spinning with duel swords I could do like a dash slice that goes from enemy to enemy for multiple enemies, also possibly a way to make specific skills more powerful(again this might already be in the game.)

That's all I got for you, I hope you will discus the game more and hopefully stop demanding a full rewrite of the game loop because you're not used to it, or you're used to the gratification of having a legendary item that gets replaced by a more powerful common item. And I hope those of you hating will play the game longer and actually discover things about it. Most of the people I see complaining have several hours in the game not enough to know, and most of them immediately went to new zones instead of exploring the one they were in which is ironic considering their argument is that they're restricted from exploring.

Alpha-access or paid-alpha is a financing model in the video game industry where consumers pay for a computer game at an early stage of development that is playable but not yet completed.
In this phase quite complete changes can take place in the game, if, as here, for example, the developer is dissatisfied with his work.

In short: no finished game was bought, but only the development of a game supported!

Nobody has the right to tell a developer how to design his game.

Constructive suggestions are of course welcome, but what is assumed is the decision of the developer.
This will not always be consistent with your own wishes and ideas.

The only real prob with region locked gear is the customisation of said gear at the blacksmiths now seems pointless.

It's not completely pointless. It helps a lot with fighting the last bosses in the area, but a cool mechanic would be weapon fusing, which could allow you to fuse weapons/armor of mulitple zones you've completed that when when you go back to previous zones you only have to use one set. Gathering the resources to customize a weapon doesn't take that much time at all tbh.
You literally took all the words out of my mouth! I was just telling a friend today about that whole level thing, basically if levels were in still it would be just like you said, get harder and harder until it was basically the same as what we've got anyway. I absolutely love this new system and have been having a blast!

I see you didn't bother to read any of the complaints and frustrations from us who understand the mechanics and have put a considerable amount of time into the beta and just went off the tiny portion of the community who is genuinely being toxic.

Majority of us have not sent any hate at the game, just voiced our disappointment on the new systems.

Ah yes all the useless deflections in one post.

Lets take this apart.

"We had to wait 6 years for an update" - Yes, but Rockstar didn't advertise a game, sold said game and then changed the entire game a few months before release without letting anyone know. Additionally Red Dead 2 is well balanced and when there were problems EVEN the vile greedy Rockstar made changes to the game.

"We didn't get any information about the game, and now we don't know how to play." - ♥♥♥♥♥ sake. WE KNOW HOW IT WORKS, WE DO NOT AGREE WITH HOW IT WORKS. More on this later.

"Region locked gear is an idiotic game mechanic" First off you are totally wrong and its kind off ironic why you are wrong. Equipment in WOW doesn't become useless from area to area, enemies just get stronger. You look for new equipment in the new areas because the enemies there are of a higher level. That increase is also incremental. You don't step over the line and your tools and equipment are taken from you and utterly useless. You gain power by going that way. If you would then go back to previous areas you still keep that new found power.

But most of all: The SINGLE, MOST HATED fact by players of the MMO is in fact that all of their previous progress is deleted in every expansion. That is the single biggest issue that even veterans of the MMO have with it. The reason these people come back is because half of their friendships and friend communities started in that game and keep living there. Everyone HATES the gear reset as well, its just that the game is so old and its systems so solidified Blizzard struggles to find a solution to this.

Additionaly: WOW is an VERY linear MMO. Every expansion has a planned out path trough it so the raise in difficulty is balanced and planed according to this.

"There's no XP anymore" with which we come to the last part since i am not going to dispute your opinion which you totally have a right to even if i disagree.

Here is my overall reasoning why the current system is a mess and why region locking and the removal of an incremental XP system only hurt the game:

Originally posted by myselfe:
I can not recommend this game in its current state.I bought the game six years ago and despite its lack of definitive content that early version was so good on exploration and overall core gameplay that over these six years i played the Alpha version of this over and over again, my current character having explored a whopping 800 kilometers.

There are FOUR design philosophies in this that are at odds with each other!

1. is the enemies which are clearly still build on the RPG system. All skill in the world won't help you if you can't actually do any damage.

2. the action based Legend of Zeldalike design has enemies that might be hard but that you can beat based on your skills even with base tier equipment. See 1. why that clashes with the current enemies.

3. The progression is clearly Roguelike, resetting your progress at the region borders every time except for the incremental upgrades of the supposed artefacts (five hours in i still have to find one i can actually get to).

4. Exploration of the free world leads you to secrets, ressources, items and lore to work with, to help you and enrich the world.

I think we all know by now the negative impact on combat and why 1. and 2. are awfull together. Simply don't make a leveled enemy system when i can't level up trough combat!

If you regularly reset my progress (2.) including my damn base equipment and pepper the world with enemies i can't beat (1.) then exploration becomes a joyless chore that feels like i am constantly running into walls.

If i can only upgrade trough exploration and finding of specific artifacts then don't make the enemy spawn all over the place. Running Slalom trough the world dreading a one hit kill that sets me back for dozens of kilometers while i explore is also an exercise in frustration. It also doesn't make me feel like a brave explorer of a brave new world. Its frustrating and makes me feel like a refugee, a weakling that needs to hide from everything.

If you take my weapons of me after hours of hard work, basically punishing me for exploring the world then the question is why i even bother with an open world?

These systems just don't fit together as they are done here.

Feedback would have prevented that.

The core difference between this and the old version is that this version tries to force you to engage with its regions by punishing you while the old version rewarded you for engaging with it.

This is the big thing.

Encouraging The Player VS Discouraging The Player.

Empowering The Player VS Deleting The Player Progress.

Free Choice For The Player VS Forcibly Railroading The Player

Challenging The Player VS Walling The Player Off

The thing is: there is content here i want.

But its locked away behind restrictions, punishments and the game in regular intervals taking your toys away.

Oh did you like those weapons and tools that you worked so hard for? Well, too bad! Start over!

Instead of creating content that is rewarding to engage with, that draws the player in, the Devs made systems that punish you if you don't.

No there isn't. And it certainly isn't silent.

The amount of pure COPE and damage control is staggering. What an absolute load of ♥♥♥♥.
Red Dead 2 did not ask for people to buy the game 8 years prior to release and then deliver a vastly inferior product than what was shown.
We got information about the game (check wollay's older tweets), except all that info turned out to be a big, fat lie.
Yes, region locked gear is retarded. No, mmos do not have region locked gear. If I take my level 60 druid in wow from one location to another, I'm not going to lose all my gear and mounts. Your comparison is idiotic.
There is no vertical progression. No, 2% swimming speed once every 5 hours is not vertical progression.
My honest opinion of this post: load of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Banny Sep 26, 2019 @ 1:51am
Yeah but at least in WoW when your LEVEL 120,
Your gear doesnt degrade to be nothing.

And No, In wow To get 'flying' you buy flying there is no Quest.

Not only that Back in the Alpha which alot of people describe you could at least 'see' what your skills do.
Warriors now for example have a chance on hit effect to effectively give them lifesteal
Rogues, ninjas to be exact cant dodge when using a special attack.
There are lots of things that are different and wrong and everyone giving very angry responses are all about love for the game.

Ive finished... at least 5+ zones now.. and the grind is essentially the same.. Legendarys are exactly fun to get they're just a power spike whereas in the Alpha it was something you kept until you found a higher level legendary :/

It´s always nice to see any progress when you play a game, that´s why people like XP. It´s a motivation to keep going, a feature who´s in games since the beginning of gaming.

Yeah I'm ignoring that list until the game has been out long enough for people to complete multiple zones/kindoms. There's already things on the list that I've seen in the game. Quest log for example is in the game it's just been integrated into the minimap. From my understanding most starting regions are very similar. That's why when you log in with a friend for the first time, they're usually extremely far away instead of in the next region over. When you explore beyond the starting region further into the kingdom there's more content yet to be seen.

  • Wollay said there would be frequent updates. It took six years to get an update. Even if he didn't say that, nobody would have predicted the game would be in limbo for six freakin' years.

  • Because the new people who are going to try the game on the 30th with no previous knowledge of the alpha are going to absolutely LOVE being totally confused on what to do and being constantly murdered by sheep, right?

  • Region locking is a stupid mechanic. Also WoW doesn't have any region locking mechanic. Any gear you find in Northrend, is still completely useable in any other zones. You don't suddenly become naked, lose your mount, and anything else because you stepped into a different region. Trying to justify region locking with 15 years of power creep in an MMO versus a primarily, single player game, is desperate.

  • Not many have said the current system cannot work and that XP is a requirement for the game to be enjoyable, but the primary complaint is that the current system does not work at all right now.

You can see the whole map now on the, well, map, and anyone can clearly see factions and their capital cities and thus leaders were cut. Why? Hell if anyone knows. Same for some new skills and skill trees, among other things. All cut.
