You likely had 33 Championship Points - Stage 1 P5 = 5 points, Stage 2 P5 = 5 points, P12 finish = 23 points, for a total of 33). The winner won a stage (1 PO point, P2-P10 don't get PO points, just championship points) and the race (5PO points, for a total of 6PO points, plus 40 Championship points for the win, and however many points they won in the stages.)
In trucks, top 12 at the end of the regular season go to the playoffs (top 16 in Xfinity and Cup) - everyone still races, but only the top 12 can win the championship. Points reset when the playoffs start with bonuses according to how many PO points were accrued during the season, and then the playoff drivers race through a series of races until the final 4 drivers are left at Homestead, where the champ is crowned based off the final four.
It's pretty convoluted and a lot of people don't like the Playoff system, but the old school "most points wins" system sometimes resulted in the Championship being won in October, so...to each their own.
I can clarify if you are confused.

you can also play the game with pre 2017 rules (kind of) if you play with out stages.
