Did you read the comments from the developer blog on the game screen once you select it from your library? Adding walls, additional floors sounds pretty interesting...
I have done the jobs, rebuilt the house, you then get tenants that can move in and then you have the loan/debt to pay off. There are only poor tenants I think so don't go too crazy making the place nice as they wreck it! I did around 200+ lots of Washing up at the pub to pay it off. Madness! Anyway once the debt is paid off the game gives you a message to wait for the next updates/expansions. So you can if you want build up some more cash to get started when it arrives.

Tenants break things and you rebuild.
You try to stay ahead of them breaking things and improve the furnishings, better walls, fixtures, cement, concrete, etc to get better tenants.
That's the never ending game loop.
