Is this game worth it if I am not a fan of GFL?
As the title suggests,
I have heard of Girls' Frontline in the past but never take any interests in it, personally not a fan of mobile gacha games... even though I do play some like Limbus Company. Judging by the gameplay and some of more serious steam reviews, it seems it's not really a bad game despite some difficulty balancing issues in later chapters.
I do like SRPG in general and I don't mind if the gameplay's meh as long as the story itself is good like Utawarerumono series but I am not sure if the story in this game is meant for only the fans. So is this game worth 20$ if I am not into GFL?

Oh and I don't care about any drama that got nothing to do with the game so save them for other discussions.
Thank you in advance!

If it does not fall off by the endgame, it could become one of my favorite tactic games.

The core combat is solid and the handcrafted maps force you to adapt your strategy. If you play on the highest difficulty and want to do all side objectives, most maps will take you several restarts.
Character building is rather limited, but that is a price that needs to be paid for tight gameplay.
Story seems solid but i do not care much about narratives so can hardly judge.

it's worth it. The drama is peak stupidity even if you are GFL fan anyway.
Someone actually posted the break down of the drama on Reddit.

It's basically just a defamation campaign from rival Chinese companies. If I am not mistaken, this devs is actually the first Chinese devs to make Chinese gacha games (previously those games are mostly Koreans and Japanese origin) and they got a lot of competitors.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

oh yeah, you are right. I didn't pay much attention to that game cause I thought it was another cheap Chinese cash grab of KanColle.

It's fine even if you don't know GFL and it's just a bonus. This is coming from someone who hate GFL's gameplay and think GFL's lore are stupid.

Tho this game do have it's own quirk like lots of stealth and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of enemy thrown at you. The first few hours of this game is very good representation of what's coming to you. So if you like the early chances are you won't be disappointed and vice versa.

Yes it's single player tactics game. No gacha.

No gacha(unless you count XCOM missing at 99% hit chance as one)

Play games like this long enough and you start to find zen acceptance of the fact that any chance to hit below 100% means your character is gonna feel like they have, at best, a coin flip chance of aiming like a Star Wars stormtrooper.

And if it is 100% chance to hit, then be sure to read the enemy's skills to make sure there isn't gonna be some graze/immunity shield/other crap waiting to negate the damage anyway.

Oh and the game's pretty good. I don't know the first thing about GFL beyond that it's a gacha about girls with guns, I just got into this one because I was bored in 2023 and the demo was on Steam's NEXT fest, I played it, liked it and wishlisted.

Original Bakery Girl came out before GFL, so if it was supposed to be a standalone product then, it will remain as such today.
There are bits and pieces of GFL-related stuff that GFL players might spot and enjoy, but overall it's a self-sufficient game as far as I'm aware.

ofc not. Those people just want this dev team to outright die off, in case you hadn't catch on.

As someone who hated GFL in both their gameplay and storytelling. This game is pretty good.

Tho I think hit chance in SRPG, while it's indefinite meme potential. Are long due for a overhaul.
Thanks for the answers guys, I will give the game a try. :yukkuri_m:

Besides the gameplay, in terms of lore, the lore of this game is actually pretty disconnected from the immediate lore of Girls' Frontline. It takes place around 30 years after the events of Girls' Frontline came to a close. The original "commander" from Girls' Frontline is not here, neither is his organization "Griffin & Kryuger" around anymore, nor are most of the dolls from the original game present (with the exception of IDW and a few others whom make a special appearance, and whom were very minor characters in the original Girls' Frontline lore).

Yeah I noticed that after a few hours of playing and enjoyed the story so far for the same reason :lunar2024dragoninablanket:
I wish I can say the same to Super Robot Wars series…
