So, just to be clear, Erekir...
... The design document said "Find all the worst parts of the game, and make this purely about that."
A hard cap on all resource income and energy production is pretty much the exact opposite of fun. The fog of war? Not fun.
Only having one source of construction, which feels like it's rigged to just barely be slow enough to wear through my patience? Not fun.
No repair and construction drones to restore my base when heavy air units take an indirect route and I have no way of knowing they were there until god knows when? Very much a frustrating element.
Enemy forces that instantly know the gaps in your defences and will slip in to ♥♥♥♥ up your economy, when your own have absolutely no idea what's going on? Not fun.
Enemy designs that would be nice if not for the fact they all blow up and register as Derelict, so you can't claim them for yourself unless you scout the entire base and make a few schematics for only this purpose, and then proceed to take forever to build for yourself because the drone's build speed is lackluster?

Do I even need to say it? I'm now remembering why I stopped playing this game.

Yeah a free update with content you don't have to play is utter garbage, burn the women and steal the houses

I confess I haven't finished Eriker myself. Looks like I got to Crossroads and then 'set it aside' a few months ago. All the pieces work (or don't) together. But to me, the fog of war was/is the 'spot on the slippery slope' that tips the balance from exciting challenge to tedious frustration.

The game is a fantastic value from an individual developer. And IMO Eriker increases the value. Tricky process for the developer. If you tune the difficulty for the average player, your most enthusiastic players will think it is too easy. I'll (probably) return and finish it at some point.

It's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be...

I thought the same starting out but it's not that bad once you unlock new energy production methods and you boost drills and they mine twice as fast. Fun is also subjective, not everyone would find an easy game where you spam unlimited resource production to become OP fun.

I agree building slowly can be annoying, but don't the repair turrets or some unit help build? Been a while so not sure on this one.

Hold "b" and you can select to rebuild everything in an area.

The AI isn't at all intelligent, they just take the shortest path, you can even build mazes for them. Also, if you built units, then all these slip ups you mention wouldn't be much of a problem. Maybe the fog of war should be a toggle, but all of these are just standard RTS mechanics.

Pretty sure you can select them for schematics if you don't blow them up.

In short, skill issue. :MaidMakaiCoffee:

Just tried to make a return to Erekir, it was so insanely bad...
Its just not fun
Turrets are trash, the tech tree is way too slow to progress down to unlock anything remotely capable, and the maps are just huge empty deserts, the fog only serves to waste your time because theres almost never anything to find when exploring, at best its more vents and you basically have to do it or your base will be in perpetual brownout, hell, with all of the vents you will probably still be in brownout... Erekir has some neat ideas, but it is just not worth the time and frustration to play...

I am having the problem of a maxed out t5 army of a single unit type isn't enough to crack one of the later bases of origin and then afterward I get counter attacked and just don't want to spend the time to rebuild the units and 1/2 my base since the turrets aren't enough to deal with the amount of t5 units with the limited space and resources, might just suck though

I was stuck on Siege for what felt like an eternity, got to Crossroads and I'm about to lose my ♥♥♥♥. It seemed like a fun idea at first, but it's only gotten worse as the missions have gone on. I keep thinking that just maybe, that one tech that'll make everything make sense will be in the next mission, but nope. From having to chain power in straight lines, to not being able to mine things out of the ground, to no phase belts, to absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weaponry, capped off with enemies that are immensely more powerful than you are, and spawn locations that complete jumpscare you and ruin hours of progress.

It's not a good planet. I thought they had introduced it as a test, something they'd come back to and improve on, but they haven't actually done anything with it, have they?

I have heard that V8 will add to Erekir, but from what i can tell they are going to make it longer and add some maps for the astriods around the solar system

I went back and started replaying the old campaign and realized just how much I dislike about Erekir and the building system. The biggest thing that still bothers me is the inability to manually connect bridge belts and pipes, on top of the other stuff I mentioned. It's like it was intended to be "hard mode", but rather than being actually challenging, it's just needlessly cumbersome and tedious.

You never feel like you have what you need, either. Climbing the resource ladder from base resources to the higher-tier refined stuff takes entirely too much time and insanely too much space.

I would be ok with a different approach to building, if it weren't so damn cumbersome. It feels like it's still in development, and now it needs to be refined, retooled, and rebalanced.
