Erekir Siege Planet
Just so you know you cannot win Siege scenario unless you take the base on the left side very quickly. This is pointed out in online comments. You need the Thorium at that location but if you are too slow the enemy places long range turrets that cover the base site and destroy it every time. Without Thorium you cannot build tier 3 inits and without them you can't win.

You aren't supposed to build T3 units, that is the mission you unlock the T4, and are meant to showcase how to use the tank assembler. While you don't have the production needed to make the carbide/thorium needed to build the assembler, you do launch with enough of each to build it. After that, all you need is to feed it Stells and tungsten walls.

Tx VB . I decided to cheat then lost interest. It gets a bit like too much work and not enough progress options.

In my experience with that map, the AI tends to attack the side that you've pushed up farther. Maybe placing walls farther up one side will make them think you're farther one one side? I'm not sure, might need to test that later. As for rushing T4, always get a solid defence up before going for a large goal. 4 Sublimates at choke points with tungsten walls and regen projectors can hold back basically everything on that map with little issue.

Knowledge of the map/knowing a build order isn't necessary to complete any of the maps, though it does help. I myself finished Siege on my first attempt, but that is most likely because I have 20+ years of RTS/strategy gaming, and it is by far my most beloved genre.

If you're still frustrated with the map, you can get help from others. I'm usually around a few times a day, and I'm certain there's others here or on their discord that wouldn't mind lending a hand to anyone that wants it.

Did I say you were wrong about an opinion? I have a personal dislike for Caldera, but dislike of a single map isn't going to make me rage about level design. No game is infallible. I like Siege, as it gives you a challenge, and the tools needed to overcome it while letting you figure out how to use the new tools. If you don't like that? That's your opinion, it isn't wrong, and I'm simply sharing strategies to help people get past a mission they don't like. The only time an opinion is wrong is when it's factual that it's wrong, like saying something is impossible when people have already done it before.

Same with your thoughts on Erekir as a whole. I actually prefer it over Serpulo, I think the missions are more well designed in general and only 3 unit lines makes it a bit more simple, but almost all the units and turrets have a solid use, compared to the 6 unit lines in Serpulo, where half of those units are basically useless. But just because I like Erekir better, doesn't mean someone who likes Serpulo more is wrong, it's just a different opinion.

I've just finished the campaign now, and did find the difficulty spike of Siege a pain, to the point of I can see why it's not fun for some. I am bloody minded enough to push through, but if there was a re-balance I'd suggest tweaking this. I also found it a slog when I'd got my tanks up, with the attack, repair, repeat cycle.
Not too much re-balancing, mind, just a little.

Yup, everything was fun/doable up to Siege where the game turns into work. If succeeding in this mission requires cheesing an AI bug, count me out.

Edit: it seems to get worse and worse from Siege on. :(

This mission can be made a load easier if you push up further on the right side of the map and rush your way to afflict and disperse construction, They will make it very easy to defend yourself and then you can build t4 tanks on the right and t2/3 tanks on the left and work your way up. I played it this way and it worked out well

One way to make this level harder is to deplete your [Carbide] paying to unlock stuff. Future fellow newbies - maybe you can learn from my mistake and be more frugal.

I don't remember for sure what resources were required to unlock the Cyanogen Synth and Tank Assembler, or whether some of that was taken from my Siege Core rather than my "stash" (not sure how that works even after all this time). I tried to unlock the Scathe but didn't have enough Carbide. Not sure if I unlocked anything else. Spendthrift unlocking was probably my downfall here.

-------- original post - guesstimates are after spendthrift unlocks --------

Just started Siege and unlocked the Tank Assembler. Already depleted some of my resources and now I'm a little confused. I am playing on tablet. So, no disrespect intended, YMMV, hope I don't cause more confusion, etc.

I didn't take a screenshot of the starting quantities. Here are my best estimates based on what adding what I've used to what remains
  • 50 carbide <--Spendthrift error
  • 526 Thorium

  • I had to build a Cyanogen Synth (50 carbide) to unlock the Assembler
  • Would prefer three Cyanogen Synths (50 carbide each) to feed the Assembler
  • That took all my carbide, so I built a Carbide Crucible (150 Thorium) to manufacture the 80 carbide required for the Assembler
  • That left me with 376 Thorium - not enough for Assembler
  • Tentative conclusion: @ceeldee was right - I need Thorium from [somewhere]. <-- (See edit above)

Vindicates @Venorik Barra's statement that the loadout is adequate.

Trivia: I had "spent" something like 94% of the resources to unlock the Scathe.
when I abandoned Siege, the Scathe reverted - not to 0%, but to not-even-available. So that tentative plan to cheese the unlock process was a bust. However, the Cyanogen Synth, Tank Assembler, and Vanquish all remained unlocked.

Thanks for doing the numbers check, when I did that initial post I actually did completely forget about the Cyanogen requirement. Honestly they should have just made it that we had to research the T4 tank/Cyanogen before we could go, probably woulda saved a lot of headaches. One thing I'd like to mention though.

Not sure if you know but you can overheat structures that need heat to produce, increasing production to 400% from a single building. This allows 1 Cyanogen to fully fuel an assembler. It does also increase fluid and material needs, but doesn't change power usage. This would take out 100 carbide out of the requirements, totalling at 130 carbide and 500 thorium for the Cyanogen and assembler.

Whoah, valuable tip - thank you! Especially nice that it doesn't increase power consumption. (Doubly special on Eriker.) I had run e.g. 120% heat "by accident" but it hadn't occurred to me to try it on purpose.

I came here to help someone that was having a rough time on one of the more challenging missions of the campaign, maybe share some tips and tricks to help someone enjoy a part of the game that had them frustrated.

You seem to be here for no reason other than to argue, and argue in bad faith no less. Beyond this post, I will not be bothering with any more of your replies. I shall leave you with one last bit of info however.

There is no dev team. There is only Anuke. One person built the entirety of Mindustry, and he started making it with almost no experience in game design. Serpulo is flawed because it was the first major thing he ever made, and to 'fix' it he would likely have to rebuild it from the ground up. Instead he spent over a year designing, making and polishing an entire second planet, which is a testament to his skills to the leap in quality. And it was FREE.

And if that isn't good enough for you? Too bad. If you don't like it, maybe pick up game design and do it how you want it yourself.
