Help with picking blocks

How do you do it, im on the mission where you have to pickup the blocks for the payload transporter but i cant pick the block, ive pushed [,] and also re binded it to to other keys still cant pickup the blocks

I have the exact same issue. After fiddling around to find out what keys those actually are (non-american layout here) and even trying to rebind them, I still have no idea how this is supposed to work.

I tried mousing over the container and pressing any of the buttons, I tried dragging around like with the rebuild key, both to no avail. How is this supposed to work, and why is it fiddly?

Googling around found me a reddit post with the same question. It *is* fiddly and basically not explained, but here is how you do it:

You float your ship over the container, and then press the pickup button. Basically like a UFO succing up a cow. You can drop it in a similar way.

im really late and replying after the answer was made, but to pick up payload you need to press the [ button, ] button to drop. you know a payload is picked up when there is a scaled sprite of the unit/payload you picked up. be wary that carrier units have limited capacity, like you can't pick up a reign with a quad (duh)
