Good AA strategy? Especially the Lich Air Boss...
Scatters are great for Wraith fighters and Ghoul bombers, but Revenant gunships hover right at their max range. And the Lich boss.... Wow does it pack a punch. Looking at the other towers, I'm not really seeing a definitive mid or late game AA tower. I've managed on Desolate Rift with some Swarm Missiles, and a couple of Cyclones. Had less than satisfactory results. The mix handled Wraiths, Ghouls, and Revenants, but the groups of Lich bosses still tore through them. I was forced to do the spin dance around them repeatedly, usually dying several times each time the Lich wave rotated through.

I had some decent success using Wraith and Revenant factories of my own, and using the Command Center on Rally right up near my defense line. But that costs you Silicon. Coal is always in short supply, particularly when you need it for Surge Alloy (I still need a couple thousand of it for tech unlocks...).

Or is it just that I don't have the final ammo turret yet (I just got the Meltdown) and I just need to throw a few down?

A good AA strategy in my opinion would be two or more Spectres and a thick thorium wall, they seem to do good against them. plus they are also good against everything else.

I was doing the oil fields map just now and A single Lich flattened my entire base when it surprised me on wave 30. The next time I did the map I just carpeted the spawn zone with hundreds of flak turrets firing metaglass and they would kill the Lich in a few seconds, even when it threw 5 of them at me.

That victory allowed me to unlock the tier 2 flak turret so I think I'll have a much easier time with them from here on.

Use lots of revenant drones to stall them over your turrets, specters in particular (meltdown does not turn fast enough to engage a lich sometimes). Leave them on attack mode and they will form a screen around the enemy spawn (under which your turrets should be). A couple hundred revenants combined with specters got me to wave 2000+ without any trouble or serious optimization work. Mostly filled the map with revenant factories.

If you don't have the ability to make a solid revenant/specter setup yet, try mixing some wave turrets armed with cryofluid in with your AA turrets to get you through earlier lich spawns.

Spectre is arguably better than meltdown in smaller number. But if we are talking about late game, where you're handling 10+ bosses in a wave, nothing is better than spamming meltdown.

Drones are definitely the best ablative armour I've found. Static defenses composed of walls, forcefields and menders are only a guarantee against basic ground forces. Anything that can shoot over the walls or drop bombs from above like the aerial boss robots can bypass the wall and hit everything behind it directly which quickly overwhelms your ability to repair stuff.
