How to get rid of clogged conveyor belts?
Seems like theres always a but of sand or coal that gets througj no matter what. It clogs up the entire belt and assembly lines. Anyway to fix this?

Mass drivers are end game tech, if someones playing campaign new they will not know what that thing is.

I recommend you track the source of your sand and where it's meeting.. a good way to prevent these problems is to build Junctions near your crossing Lines so you can prevent issues of sand or other materials getting into the resource lanes.

I've had problems with Routers accidentally sending sand/pyratite and coal onto my main lines so i just used junctions and overhead bridges to prevent the issues from happening again.

another thing you can do is Sorters and sort out the material you want (it will let them go straight through) while sorters if it finds a material not permitted it will send it to the alternative line if you have one connected.

You'll have to track it to the source, because it will keep happening. You probably have a Bridge somewhere that's too close to a Conveyor it shouldn't be outputting to. Because the exit of a Bridge works just like a Router, it will go in all 3 directions.

This dude said everything. You have a drill, a bridge or a router linked to a wrong line

try to always use armored belts in non-critical long transport chains, stops accidental contamination when belts go along buildings. for critical transport chains, always have a vault and unloader close to the destination for buffering the line, the vault will store the contamination.

mass drivers on the other hand is better overall in crossing over boundaries, less spaghetti, more work throughput.

We had this issue with t. mass drivers as well though. Our Mass driving was supposed to be getting phase cloth but ended up getting sand due to placement. it’s something where you need to check your line and if you have a bridge our router causing the mishap.

i figured out how to use sorters and invert sorters. Really helps sort things out. Now i just moshpit everything into 4 distributors and on the way seperate them via the sorters.

There are good reasons to keep belts to just one product if you can. Mainly, if the output for any item stalls, it stalls the entire belt and the unrelated items don’t move either. Sorters don’t help that unless you’re willing to use incinerators to prevent stalls.

There are, of course, cases where you can’t avoid it. Like separators, since those dump random stuff on the belt.

While the author has said the answer is already provided, what exactly is the best way to remove offending items from a belt once they're on it? Is it that you have to go and pick them off individually, or deleting the whole belt and making it again?

sorters

i mann'd up and figured ♥♥♥♥ out but sorters and vaults are the best way especially vaults that can be sorted in different ways.

I don't think I have vault tech yet, and it's not something you get early in the learning campaign. I've found the best way is just tapping on the core and taking off the offending items as they arrive there. It's not hugely efficient but it's better than trying to find them on the conveyor

you can see what items pollut the conveor and put sorters into an incinerater or to something else if you are lazy

So at least Mindustry has some ways to get rid of excess resources other than building ever more storage boxes like in Factorio. That's nice. Especially since the deposits are endless.
What would be a nice addition: a transmutation device that turns one resource into another (in a suitable relation, i. e. the rarer the output, the more input you need), using power.

Most of the people here only talk about how to design your factory to avoid this, but that doesn't really answer the question. When building in a narrow space, sooner or later, I will inevitably misclick somewhere and accidentally connect belts and buildings that shouldn't be connected. Of course I'll correct the error immediately, but the damage has already been done. Other factory games provide ways to get items off the belt to solve this. In Factorio, I can press F and walk over the belt to pick up the items on it, and Shapez 2 also has a button to clear belts. As far as I can tell, the only way to do this in Mindustry is to destroy and rebuild the belts, which is pretty annoying. Putting sorters and incinerators everywhere just for this obviously isn't feasible either.
