Error: Failed to launch game in stereoscopic 3D mode as one or more 3D components are missing
Please help!!

It worked fine until I upgraded my pc and reinstalled window, steam and helixvision, I got this error when trying to open a game in 3D Vision mode (not VR mode)

Error: Failed to launch game in stereoscopic 3D mode as one or more 3D components are missing.

My rig: ryzen 5 3500, rtx 2060.

What I did:
Install 3D vision driver (via helixvision)
install 3D hack for Plague Tale. -> press "play VR", the error message appear.
Reinstall NDVIA driver (manually).
Try the game again, still the same error message.

I'm not sure what would happen to create this error. In our tests we see this work smoothly after a clean driver install. But we have heard of a couple of reports of failures where people also used 3DFM, and it suggests there is a conflict of some form between them.

3DFM 1.75 has a different approach for fixing the 3D, by globally modifying the video driver system wide. HelixVision uses a targeted approach of modifying the video driver only when a game is running in 3D, and only for the game itself.

I suspect that you might have the globally modified driver in place, and HelixVision sees that as a conflict, because it needs an unmodified driver for its approach.

If that doesn't seem to be related to what you see, please try doing a DDU type driver reinstall to be sure that nothing is broken. And then only use HelixVision to startup the 3D.

You can still use HelixVision for all 3D Vision tasks as well, it is not specific to VR. Change to the 3D Vison mode under Settings.

Thank for your reply. I am pretty sure I only use the Helixvision app on steam, no other program. However, when I opened the Helixvision app, only an interface with 3D Fix Manager title appeared, I didn't do anything else such as downloading anything related to 3DFM outside helixvision before.

I tried to click both the "Play VR" and 3D option, same error message appear.
When back from work, I am gonna try your suggestion of DDU uninstall driver then use HelixVision.

I tried your suggestion and it worked!.

Now I can go into the game.

But there is one big problem:

when I go into the game, only a red screen appear, nothing else! :( although the game still run. ( base on the sound)

OK, good to hear that it is closer to running.

Which game are you trying? I can test and/or lookup the game to offer suggestions.

If you have some games in our curated list, try those first as the most likely to work.

Only red screen suggests that it's only drawing one eye of the 3D, not both. With both, we'd expect blue and red on the main screen. This could be that the 3D is still not quite working correctly. Try going to the NVidia 3D Control Panel and use the button for Stereoscopic Test and verify that is working as a way to test 3D Vision itself.

thank you very much! The game is A plague tale: Innocence (which is not in the VR list). What's strange is the game had still worked with Helixvision until I upgraded mainboard and cpu and reset window recently.

I tried Trine 3 in 3D (not VR) and it worked fine, showing both blue and red tint.
I don't have a red-blue glass at the moment so I am gonna buy one and do the Stereoscopic test.

OK, good. Since you can see Trine 3 in red/blue that suggests that it is working. No need to get glasses to view these- you can just look at the separation between the red and blue, as that is the depth being seen. On the NVidia Test for example, you'll see the spinning NVidia logo have more and less distance between the red and the blue, as it moves in and out of the screen.

I just tested the Plague Tale Demo version, and it was working OK in HelixVision. So I think you should be able to get this working OK.

If the game is only showing red, let's try a few things.
1) Since computer has been rebuilt, run the game at least once in 2D, so that it can make settings and compile shaders and install other software.
2) Try to do Alt-Return to make it windowed, then Alt-Return to back to full screen.
3) Try using Ctrl-T to turn off 3D, then Ctrl-T to turn it back on.
4) Verify game files to be sure the game is still fully installed.
5) Uninstall the 3D fix, then reinstall when you click PlayInVR, and accept the driver modification.

Those can sometimes kick start 3D if it's not quite kicking in.

Does it show in HelixVision? And presumably just one eye?

awesome suggestions, it gives me hope :D. Will try all tonight and inform you the result.

and it doesn't show on Katanga at all. All it has is a black screen.

HI BOB! just want to say I solved the red screen problem by pressing Ctr F3 to reduce screen depth to maximum ( middle of the depth bar). After I had done that, the red receded, the blue appeared, 3d worked perfect.
With my rig ( r5 3500 rtx2060) I got around 40fps in 3d VR however, after a while, I got quite sick, so I turned back to my normal monitor (75 hz) and found out that I prefer smooth frame rate and sharpness of a monitor more.

So that's done. But another big problem has emerged. (sorry for too many problems hehe):
I can't play Trine 3 in VR!! when I pressed the play VR button, it showed and error and close Katana.
Trine 3 is a gorgeous 3D game. Playing it in 3d absolutely blown me away. It is such a shame I can't play it in VR :(

Great! Glad you at least got it working and playable. I'll remember that tip about it being cranked up to high and diverging images too. We'll be adding a new VR profile to the 3DFM side of the app, which will allow us to specify a specific depth and convergence to start, which will help avoid problems like this.

For getting sick in VR, make sure that your GPU has about 5% headroom when playing the game, so that the Katanga app can get some GPU time. If the game is using every single GPU resource, that can stall the VR side and make the frame rate bad in VR to where it makes you sick. As part of that VR display profile, we'll also be adding a frame rate limiter to make this more seamless.

Sorry about Trine 3, I confirm that it's not working with HelixVision at present. The Trine series is terrific in 3D, but I have so far been unable to get them to work. Trine 3 is also DX9, which makes it harder.

After we get a bit more stable, I want to add a SBS capture, that would allow us to use the Trine SBS modes for all games.

Awesome!!! I am waiting for all those great features to be implemented and fixes to make this app a must have for VR headset owners :D :D
Thank you :D :D

Just to inform you that, after limiting the framerate in game, now everything work perfect, especially in older game like Dishonored. Playing it in 3d vr helixvision is one of the best experience of my gaming life!!!! Thank you!!!
To play latest games in 3d VR without getting sick, you're gonna need 2080ti

Super! Thank you for the feedback. The frame rate limiter is a huge improvement and should help avoid that GPU starving problem that people, without them having to find the settings to make it work. Very glad it made a big difference for your play.
