Saves from the 2 season to the 3 season.

I read this on the author's Patreon: "Steam saves are NOT compatible with this Patreon version.", but it doesn't say if it only applies to the first 2 Seasons or the entire game. So I have a question. Is it possible to transfer saves from the Steam version of the game to Season 3 or do you have to play the game first on the patreon version?

You can import end of season 2 saves into the S3 game

The only kind of saves from the Steam version that is compatible with the Patreon version of the game is the season 2 final saves that you do at the very end of a playthrough. These can imported into the Season 3 client through the in game interface. All other saves won't work and my corrupt the game.

I personally played the season 1 and 2 on Steam then imported my final saves through the Season 3 Patreon client and it worked fine.

This is more to prevent people copying the actual saves between the two plaforms. They cannot be interchanged as there are internal differences between Steam and Patreon. We have people trying to copy saves say from ep4 Steam into S2 Patreon or vice versa. You can't do that.

Given the sheer size of S1/S2 combined at this point (20GB), DPC had to split off S3. So, to get "saves" from S2 into S3, you will need to use an IMPORT function. These saves are called Transfer Saves and if you click once after the End of Season 2 screen, you will see the Transfer save screen. The ones you save here will be available for Import into S3.

Currently, you can IMPORT into Patreon S3 from Steam (or GOG). DPC has not yet said anything about IMPORT into Steam (or GOG) S3.

Considering that season 3 is not on Steam yet, we shouldn't assume anything. But, the one thing that should be consistent is that season 3 uses a new executable(it's not just adding content to the launcher used for seasons 1 and 2. So, since it's a new executable, that end save from the end of season 2 is what imports to season 3. This is the only method to move from Steam over to the Patreon version. Now, once season 3 is on Steam, I expect that the import from Steam final save from season to to season 3 will be there.

We can't know if there would be a "final save" at the end of season 3 or not. Without a final save from season 3 that might allow for importing between versions, no one should assume that Patreon season 3 saves would ever be able to move back across to Steam.

I believe this is why the "Do not suggest methods that are not supported..." statement has been made, because NORMAL saves are not compatible between Steam and Patreon. We don't know if Steam season 3 will have an import that would accept end saves from Season 2 on Patreon(it might be left out for the Steam version).
