So her hostility is her attempting to resist him.
It's how she is, is not against the MC only. Now, why is she like that, possibly a superiority complex (I'm so smart that you don't deserve my attention)
as performance-pressure breaks her down.
Success, she wills it so -
could she break her sprit more,
and wring from it the happy flow,
the energy she craves,
such as will ease her mind?
Unhappiness,
it makes her work even harder, yet to no avail,
and as if in quicksand, she sinks deeper.
Will pills keep her afloat?
Utterly frustrated,
she can no longer uphold her fake persona,
the self-image, the illusion breaks,
that once was a comfort to her tortured soul.
With the mirror shattered,
on bloody knees she creeps around,
to gather from the fragments a life,
hope, a future, a dream,
even an illusion, to cling to.
She cannot let go.
She invested so much in it,
for much too long,
as if a in a bad relationship -
but who did whom abuse?
Along comes a natural,
successful if and when wants to be, as if effortlessly.
Even someone who defines his own success,
who seeks the freedom that she never sought.
Envy, the green-eyed monster,
grips her by the throat.
and failure proves too much to swallow.
Suffocating, starving, she struggles with self-imposed constraints.
Frustration feeds the sea of bitterness inside,
and like Ahab hurting, she bolts it around,
at monsters from the deep, imagined opponents,
and she fights Quixotic windmills,
as if the world's at fault,
always others,
never she.
Tell me that if you do Sally see,
you will set her free.
You see the behavior as being against the MC, but really, a part of it is that Sally is insecure about a lot of things, her boyfriend Magnar isn't really great for her, but he's a boyfriend, and she doesn't have a lot of prospects. Now, she might like someone else, but she doesn't want to lose the only boy/man she has been in a long term relationship with to something that won't last. So, while a fling with a MC who shows an interest might be something she would like, she wouldn't want to go near a MC who might cast her aside without any notice.
She also may naturally want to be in a dominant position in a relationship, and senses that she would never be dominant with the MC, so that annoys her as well.
