honestly fair point
Of course the more people compare Civ 7 with Humankind the more others know about it to perhaps play it and see if they prefer Humankind. Again not guaranteed.
Any DLC will need to be huge, not just a culture pack. I cannot think of any new feature to enhance other than weather systems. But pollution is already of such a mechanic.
Or maybe make following cultures sequences that are linked geographically or historically gain bonuses. Or gameplay that better rewards sticking to the same culture, but never better than the strength of diversity by picking different cultures
But that would be seen as admittance of the culture switching as a wrong feature to implement. It is not wrong, it is just that people found it hard to get used to it since not everyone is able to imagine a different world independent of what reality is.
My brother in christ the game has 50x the playernumbers, Civ 7 is not a failure by any metric. It's drawing as many players as Civ 6 even with the mediocre reception. Humankind meanwhile lost 80% of its playerbase a month after launch and never even came close to regaining it. No DLC had any impact on the playerbase. This game is dead which is pretty much the popularity it deserves.
And the playerbase getting a huge tick on release and then dropping to a relatively stable level is basically how all of the Amplitude 4X titles operate, they make some pretty eclectic choices with game mechanics, making people bounce off relatively easy. HK had added 'advantage' here of being on Game Pass and that polarizing effect being especially loud, without even mentioning technical issues on launch.
I agree that calling Civ7 a failure is a huge stretch, but so is calling Humankind dead game.
