the "complete your collection" issue has been fixed. having the "cultures of latin america" dlc in your inventory.. does now reflect as owned and does not charge the $8.99 cost of the dlc. advice: just make sure to claim the free dlc content FIRST, then if you need or want to complete your collection.. make sure "cultures of latin america" is grayed out and you are not being charged. this was not the case 2 hrs ago.
again.. the only item in the entire definitive edition (or CyC bundle) that is not on sale.. is the content that is oddly free. i would say thank you for fixing this. but should have never been priced to begin with and def shown as owned and price removed if the content was claimed and the consumer wanted to complete the collection of what was missing.
onward.
my apologies for taking so long to answer..
so as it turns out.. yes. it is somewhat difficult to see the difference as an owner to the base game on steam. so a person interested in purchasing the complete game without owning it would not be able to see the difference.
example:
if i did not own the game at all. and was interested in purchasing the "definitive edition" it would show a price of $15.11 at 86% off. as shown here. at united states sales rate.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/37299/HUMANKIND_Definitive_Edition/
so if one were to purchase the base game for $7.49, then add the free "cultures of latin america" for free.. THEN "complete your collection" bundle option AFTER doing all this.. the bundle offer, after removing the $8.99 (non discounted price) of the cultures of latin america removed.. would make the complete your collection bundle price (discounted at %50) around $6.89. combining $6.89 along with $7.49 would result ($14.38) in around a $.70 + $2.50 for the HUMANKIND deluxe upgrade, nets a value saved at $3.22 total, additional saving, as you are not being charged full price for the "cultures of latin america" dlc.. that is then discounted on top of the bundle discount, and you get the HUMANKIND deluxe upgrade at $2.50 which is part of the complete your collection bundle.
alot to digest there i know.. apologies. tldr. IF you do not own the HUMANKIND base game. and are interested in getting the best value from your purchase of definitive edition. (american sales rate) one would first purchase HUMANKIND standard edtion for $7.49. then.. activate the Cultures of Latin America DLC for free. then "complete your collection" for the additional bundle discount WITHOUT the cultures of latin america or standard edition being charged for at $13.79 with the %50 complete your collection discount, resulting in $6.89. breakdown below.
30.27 all content definitive
- 7.49 base game
- 8.99 latin cultures
=13.79t
13.79 at 50% = 6.89
6.89 + 7.49 (cost needed to complete bundle) = 14.38
$14.38 - $15.11 (definitive price) = .72
.72 + 2.50 (included with bundle HUMANKIND deluxe up) = $3.22
$3.22 total saved.
i know it's a book to read. but no other way to answer your question appropriately (at least in my mind)
all the best.
SIDE NOTE: did this after waking without coffee. there might.. still be some errors here. even after going over it several times.
man.. (sigh)
you have to hope that it was just an oversight. publisher like paradox? this would be expected. as this is what has ruined the trust in the publishing house. aplitude? while they have done some mistakes.. (HUMANKIND release and Mac users for instance).. i cannot for the life of me suspect them to do underhanded practice to shave a couple bucks off the unsuspected.
i could be wrong.. but i hope not. i do like some of games they have made.. and i hope becoming independent as their own publisher again helps them reconnect. the free dlc is a nice touch.. with strings attached of course. but in the right direction.
cheers.

second reply to my own.. "fixed"
all the best
Best wishes
not even sure what you're getting at..
the 1 min between post and edit was for spelling errors. and stated in the reply itself was the 2hrs time difference between the pricing error and the fix. that time can be seen from the original posts time stamp to the reply itself. there was an issue.. it was fixed. all that matters, and why i added the addendum.
cheers.
thank you very much for the reply, very informative.

***UK Pricing
So bundle deal on steam for everything is: £11.98.
---
Buying the standard version from steam then adding the free DLC.
Standard game: £5.99
Free DLC: £0
---
***Steam App would not update price for bundle. Had to buy bundle from browser.
New bundle price: £5.46 (With the standard game & free DLC removed)
---
So total price after all this: £5.99 + £5.46 = £11.45
Original bundle deal price: £11.98
Saving: £11.98 - £11.45 = £0.49
---
So you do save money... but waste time (not that much time tho).
i appreciate your response and science..
though.. not the original meaning for the post. price savings did become a direction to the original post when i answered Draques question.
for me.. it's more about consistency and trust. not about the "savings". pricing needs to be accurate. and reflective accurate on all pricing models. this type of "mistake" (i call it behavior), is indicative to the greed that is becoming the games industry downfall. not a developers fault.. but a publishers one (usually)
all the best.
Yeah I understand, 100% with you on that.
Just got some of the Ubisoft games. Assassins creed / ghost recon etc and the ingame stores with pay-to-win and "skip the grind" stuff make me sick. Luckily I've waited years to play them so got most at 90/80% off, patched as much as they would be.
Even then I don't want my time wasted so will most likely use cheat engine to skip grinding for resources. I'm also never going to pay for ingame store items, boost etc for a singleplayer game its a joke. Would give the game a pass if it was free-to-play and all the stuff was cosmetic but sadly not the case here.
The fact that the sell "cool" or more interesting items in the stores and "boosters", "material" packs etc means that the devs (probably forced by the publishers) made the game with the intent to push the player towards buying this stuff by making the "normal" game more of a grind than it originally would have been. Also removing cool weapons and armour to sell them back to us in their store...
Well if the industry moves towards more singleplayer games rather than always online crap which it seems like they might be doing (?), then I'll be much happier.
