PC Gamer and IGN reviews don't seem too good..

Myself, I don't pay attention to PC Gamer or IGN. I watch youtube videos of gameplay. Not the youtube reviews, the actual gameplay and decide if the game in question is something I want to play. Been waiting for Humankind to launch for awhile. I have watched Havoc's gameplay. Watched him get beat up early by Deer, ravaged by the Huns and still be in the Fame Hunt. So I'd say that was review enough.

As a reminder, IGN gave Civilization 6 a 9.4 at launch. I mean with all the bugs and balance issues at the time and it somehow got a near perfect score? Says a lot about these so-called professional reviewers.

Those reviews look pretty good to me..Real good. 8s and 9s. One below average review does not make a game bad. Its just means this style game is not that reviewers cup of tea.

Look at civ.. but look at user score... no balance and if you read the 100 score or even those above 90´s then, you can just laugh.

100 frrom various critics ie Gamespot and IGN................ (it actually is a good game, but even a biased fan like me, would never give it 100) it showcase just how biased and stupid the whole review scene is.

They gave civil6 9.4 when it released and we all knew it was a bad game until the dlc release. There's no way this game is worst than fresh release vision of civil.

RPS says it's good but also mentiones some wierd issues (buggy) as well as game mechanics the authore seems to like but also admits he doesn't know yet whether they will turn out breaking the game or not. Bit of a mixed bag there.

I mean, this is a humankind discussion.

It's arguable that everyone here prefers strategy games/4x.

It's also arguable that both of those are fairly niche categories, certainly a minority among gamers.

So is it not likely that we see their reviews in a different light, because they are catering to a different audience?

IGN does give ludicros scores from time to time, but usually they are heaping praise on undeserving games, not the other way round. So if you get a low score, it is a bad sign. Not that 7/10 is low, but it's lower than I'd expect for a good game.

But I think we can conclude it's neither a broken mess nor an instant classic, so we just have to find out for ourselves whether we individually like it.

Explorminate, which is a website by hardcore 4x fans that only reviews games of the strategy genre gave it a 9/10.
Which is probably enough for me, because that are people that do basically only play 4x for hundreds of hours and know the genre in an out.
And so far when they said its a good game it was always the case for me when i tried it later.

They shouldnt even exist anymore in the era of user reviews and such. They rate stuff badly, often based on financial "bonuses" system and they are bringing up their own political / social / other opinions in to the reviews, so they are even biased. Dont even dare to consider their opinion as legitimate one, or even decisive one.
