Although, cutting down forest may still be useful if you build your outpost in low-industry spot, as it will speed up the construction of the outpost itself.
And good tip about speeding up Outpost creation. Thank you.
I've also noticed that population in Outposts serves to give you more religious followers, as long as you have the spread, so that's nice.
Going by the wiki[humankind.fandom.com], it sounds like even unattached Outposts give you influence for population? Again, quite nice.
So the big loss is "only" Industry.
Unfortunate, but not the end of the world. Unattached Outposts do seem more useful than I usually thought they were.
