Where does Outpost production go?
To be clear, I'm talking about unattached Outposts. Not Outposts that have been attached to a city and become Administrative Centers; I understand how that works.

I get that Food grows population, and this population can be used to build a couple of specific units, and if an Outpost gets attached, that population joins the city.

Does that population do anything else?

What about other forms of production, like Industry, Money, or Science? If the Outpost is unattached, does that just go to waste?

I assume Industry does, but maybe Money goes into your general coffers, since that's an empire-wide currency (as opposed to Industry being a local resource)?

I've noticed that if you try to cut down a forest in the territory of an unattached Outpost, it says the Industry will go to that Outpost. I'm not sure if this implies that there's a use for it, or that it's a waste...

I guess if Industry does get wasted on Outposts, it would have been nice if chopping down a forest would give the Industry to the nearest city, even if only in part.

I don't think it goes anywhere, this may mainly be a leftover of the OpenDev system, when instead of buying out district with influence the outposts still had to build it with their industry.

Although, cutting down forest may still be useful if you build your outpost in low-industry spot, as it will speed up the construction of the outpost itself.

Ah, interesting about OpenDev. Unfortunate that it's just some "leftover system", but kind of makes sense, I guess, and at least explains some things.

And good tip about speeding up Outpost creation. Thank you.

You're correct about food. Money, Science and Influence gets added to your empire coffers. Industry is only useful for the "building" part of the outpost (i.e. between using the army action and the outpost coming online): the bigger the Industry the faster the outpost will be built. After the outpost is built, all industry is wasted

Oh, that's nice to know. Honestly, I was expecting Money and Science to disappear.

I've also noticed that population in Outposts serves to give you more religious followers, as long as you have the spread, so that's nice.

Going by the wiki[humankind.fandom.com], it sounds like even unattached Outposts give you influence for population? Again, quite nice.

So the big loss is "only" Industry.

Unfortunate, but not the end of the world. Unattached Outposts do seem more useful than I usually thought they were.
