Can the actions of an ally trigger grievances?

In a game I am playing a number of grievances against me were triggered by some violence near a trade route. The problem is that I had nothing to do with this violence, and I don't have any vassals. So I can't figure out why the grievances against me were triggered. Is this a bug? The only other thing I can think of is that an ally caused the problem and that triggers a grievance for me. Does anyone know? Thanks
