Pollution Disabling?
So they put in the end game conditions patch, which is nice. But they specifically point out that you only disable the pollution threshold, not the pollution effects. Are we ever going to get that, or was that just a rumor or plan that fell through? I'm eager to get back into the game, but with pollution being as it was last time I played, it's just not much fun.

If you're willing to use a mod, we made one that completely disables pollution after receiving numerous requests. The mod removes pollution and all references to pollution from the game.

You can get it here: https://gc2021.com/showthread.php?tid=75

The mod was tested in a MP game, but should work fine in single player too. It works on Windows and Mac.

A perfect example of the modding community fixing what the developer does not have the will to do.

I don't understand how folks have issues with pollution. One, I find it fun and interesting, but more importantly, I have never ended a game with the pollution level being higher than stage one, and most of the time it doesn't even get that far. Are people putting in effort to pollute the planet or what?

Pollution can and has been used by players who were not winning to end the game with a win for them. In addition, the AI doesn't properly handle pollution, so you could have virtually no pollution in your empire and the AI could pollute the crap out of the world and end the game prematurely. Other people, such as me, find the system arbitrary and improperly implemented, resulting in it appearing to be more about the publisher's politics than an actual attempt at a viable in-game mechanic. Case in point is the inconvenient truth story arc. If you pick the wrong choices, even with very low pollution, the world suddenly turns into mostly desert because your one nation didn't stop global warming.

Are you sure? Did you played recently?

In previous version, I saw AI with negative pollution, and all with rather low pollution,

If the world is pollute a lot it's more because of player, because in last two eras AIs aren't enough efficient for that. And even more it seems now they take some care.

Moreover you can have demands on polluters and you can lost influence if you are the first polluter.

I suppose it won't work to provoke AIs by polluting too much, but I'll try.

When you dig the whole it's not that bad, but as it can be no turn limit, I can understand some players want disable it entirely.

I am playing it recently but haven't gotten to the new pollution system yet, nor did I want to until the 'disable pollution end game' option came out or I had the pollutionless mod. I played a few games after this game released where the AI's ended the world due to pollution, even though I cleaned up my act (see what I did there? :D)

The only changes the devs made to the system since what I told you about was to increase the maximum and now, to disable it. Yeah sure, the forced decisions you *have* to take in 'inconvenient truths' to avoid stupid results are annoying but it's a small part of the overall playthrough. When you take out the 'you ended the world with pollution' mechanic, it's like a barrier to enjoying the endgame has opened up and even the pollution mechanic has some potential in it.

A 'war to end the polluters' seems like a nice bit of irony for the end game, given how much carnage, pollution, and destruction of the environment would happen in such a war.
