have you tried clicking directly on the enemy stack?
Or using the city to initiate the combat and then moving your army in?
Please make sure about the placement and from where the new army joins. Sometimes, some tiles are blocked.
If my army stays adjacent to enemy besieging (so that one army is inside battle area, while my own army is adjacent to it) then clicking on it does nothing.
Do you mean that I can move my army to the battle zone when it's my turn in the battle itself?
I know that I can add reinforcements during my battle when it's my battle turn, but I didn't know that I can also move not participating armies into the battle zone the same time too.
If that's the case I cannot use that, because there is no battle here. There is siege maintained for some time.
The same somehow applies to any other battle which takes more than 1 game turn. But still they are limited in time. The sieges can be maintained for long.
Yes, that's what I mean. If the battle is running you can move additional armies into the battlefield from outside as long as it is your turn in the battle. If the siege is still only maintained, make a sortie from the city, and then move armies from outside.
The movement of the new army needs to end on the very first tile of the battlefield area. Also make sure the area is suitable. Some tiles are blocked, or even cut off. Because the reinforcement point is that very tile.
Of course, the AI will likely do the same.
As long as you haven't started the assault, both sides can add stacks to the siege. I added a couple more to see if I could and it worked. I have no idea if you can reinforce an active assault that takes more than one turn to resolve because I didn't try but while you are sieging, both sides can reinforce.
Of course, the OP wants to reinforce an ally's city that's being sieged by an enemy army and so the above might not be possible. I haven't tried to do that because I am not really that good an ally.
@The Doctor: You can reinforce an active assault on your battle turn in each of the 3 phases per round with armies from outside. Yes, that means on a subsequent turns, you can add a new army from farther away to help and play the battle on 'time'. This works for all battles.
Devs said during OpenDevs that they were unable to implement three(or more)way battles and didn't feel good about giving full control over army one or the other ally (and it would not be a solution if the battle was between your enemy and neutral party), so it sadly can't be done.
