Can Someone Explain the Turn Limit / End Year?
I played a 'normal' length game that ended at turn 300, but it was only the year 1796 CE. Will the game always end on year 1796 CE if set at normal length? Or does the end year change based on what turn you go from Neolithic to Ancient era?

In Civ, the game always ends on year 2050 CE (if no victory condition met), regardless of the amount of turns set as the limit, meaning that the game speed adjusts the amount of years / turn. With HK's setup, it seems that the game year is completely meaningless and that the turn count has no connection to what the game year is. It seems strange to me that the game wouldn't have a set 'final game year' like Civ does, does anyone else feel this way?

**EDIT 1**
I started a new game and I made a mistake in my post. I just entered the Ancient Era and there actually isn't a game year posted yet, so it must come at the next era. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this doesn't make sense.

I understand the point is 'fame' and that depending on your focus, you could be at a very different point technologically than the other civs in the game. But, I liked that in Civ games they have a meaningful game year that you can essentially compare your progress against what technologies had been discovered in real life.

**EDIT 2**

Completing research of Calendar appears to be what triggers the game year being displayed. That makes sense if the game year does have a fixed value in the game, assuming that no matter what year you discover Calendar, the year will be a constant value. For example, if you discover Calendar on Turn 32 on 'normal' (what my current game is showing), the year will always be 4362 BCE.

Now the question is, if I discovered Calendar on Turn 32 on 'blitz', will it still be the year 4362 BCE or will time progress faster per turn and the game still ends in 1796?

Long story short, the time scale is off, so you're definitely right about the disconnect. Personally, I use the Holocene calendar for this reason.

It does end around 1796, I didn't even notice. Well that's it, this is the final piece of the puzzle to convince me they absolutely didn't playtest Contemporary at all

Yeah the year counter doesn't seem to be linked with anything.

The modern Era definetly lacks testing. It has perhaps the highest number of tech per Era but is arguably the slowest. I usually never spend more than 30 turns on the modern Era in Endless pacing. Hopefully balance updates will hit as soon as they have fixed the game breaking bugs that some people encounter (thankfully didn't happen to me).

Another update: The turns and years in the game officially make no sense at all. I started a game on 'Slow' and now that I'm at turn 250, it's year 3929 BCE, as opposed to turn 300 on 'Normal' being well into the CE years, as turn 300 was 1796 CE. What the hell??

And for reference, I've already built Notre Dame...

Much like civ, sounds like the year doesn't have any real connection to the game.

I always think it would be more interesting if the year was linked to the current level of technology so that it had a better correspondence to the actual time period.

Yeah I also noticed that I entered medieval era on a endless game and it was like before the romans even existed in our world timeline.

But then again, who wasnt sending people into space in Civilization by 1720? Haha

It would be cool if they could tie up the years to at least have the end turn by 2050 or so.
