Why Renounce?
So turning a grievance into a demand has immediate and obvious effects, but Renouncing a Grievance seems to do nothing aside from causing the same grievance to pop up again next turn. (Yes, game, they still won't let people practice my religion. No, game, I do not want to *demand the entire territory* as my only solution to that problem.) Renouncing doesn't reduce war support and seems to have zero impact on the AI's attitude towards me, so can someone tell me what the point of it is?

I do it with allies to remove it from the list of grievances. You are right, not sure if it affects their relationship, but I feel good at least:lunar2019laughingpig:

I think it does improve relations with AI, but it can be hard to tell.

In my current game I kept renouncing the ai next to me. At first he wouldn't accept trade, but after a while of doing that he did a few turns later. So maybe it does help relations?

I let grievances go when I really need certain strategic resources or luxuries, because making some restoration demands cuts the trade.

By the way, I don't renounce, I may need them later. Just let them stay there until they disappear 10 turns later, or until I use them to make demands. Also, if both parties did make some demands, I ask for a mutual such gesture.
