However, I set the win condition to space race at Humankind difficulty as I do not want the AI to win just by researching all tech. And due to diplomacy and resource spread, it is likely that no ai will have all the aluminium and oil to complete the space launch.
so the french were your key to victory?
In all seriousness I had already won. Science victory or not I had too much fame that there was no way for the AI to catch up. I ended my last turn by launching as many nukes as possible.
Eliminated only enemy on my continent during Ancient Era and later expanded to all of an empty continent so no need to fight. Persian wasn't needed could have used something better. Khmer for population and production. Joseon for a needed science boost at that time. Siamese for some needed money (probably wasn't best, hadn't realised restrictions on building their unique), Japanese for some last minute science. Just kept spamming research quarters at the end. Was getting the final techs in 2 or 3 turns each. Would have been faster but had no access to oil to build the supercomputers etc.
Even if you eliminate, arent the roving bands an annoyance? enough to pillage your outposts?
In Early Modern go for Joseon.
After the early pop boom (which will give you LOADS of Science), Joseon Cultural Districts will carry you over through the later Techs.
Just remember to keep building Farmers and Research Quarters.
Get Beware False Prophets as a Religious Tennet, so your wonders will give 50 Science each, and that alone will make you research all Techs till Medieval, at a good rate. For Wonders, focus on Stonehenge and Mausoleum.
Had two unclaimed territories. Left two groups of scouts on auto-explore so they ransacked all Redoubts or Sanctuaries before any roving bands could form. Kept getting volunteer warriors as well so had about 8 or so. Eventually got bored with that and added last two territories to cities.
In the ancient I claimed Hanging Gardens and had about 5 or more Sage that I built it on. Most of the game I couldn't keep up with employing the population as it grew so fast.
I wanted to go for the Space victory but no OIL (not a single one) despite controlling half the map or so...
I went Egypt > Persia > Khmer > Joseon > Siam > Sweden
I had several of my cities churning out over 7k science at the end thanks to Swedens building.
As long as you are working full scientist slots in every city you can do it. When you reach the point where you can start spamming districts, just go heavy on research ones. Since I was super heavy gold, I would just mass purchase research districts with the occasional food to keep growth in line with them.
