So, if you have 10 hours left in the challenge, and it takes 11 hours to travel to Earth, it won't let you because it's too far.
You can prematurely end the challenge by hitting the Retire button, which I think is in the lower-left.
If you have finished the mission requirements there should be a highlighted box that says Retire.
I have always finished moon Madness on earth but you might still be able to finish as long as you have completed the Boris mission and have the 1.5 million
