I don't use the abattoir for personal reasons, but, I know you have to leave significant breeding space in pens and I assume you need to get the balance between animal production and abattoir demands balanced, I am guessing, from how other aspects work, that it is important to have the abattoir close to the animals.
Do you have a logistics building? I don't ever build one now. There are some real problems with that building. Staff go there and they stay and they stay and.............. You could save your game, delete the logistics building (if you have one) and see if that makes any improvement.
It's not a bug. It's because "Butchering" at the Slaughter House Factory are faster work then a baby animal to be born.
Meaning, you need " a lot" of animals that breeds to be able to follow up with butchering.
That's why you're not supposed to have a Slaughterhouse Factory building until later in game.
I have more then 200 animals and I am still not butchering them yet since the speed of breeding may not match the speed of butchering.
Hope it helps.
