Convert Chicory Saved Data on Mac to PC?
I played around 70-80% of Chicory on a Macbook Pro and don't have access to it anymore.

When trying to play Chicory on my PC, my saved game was not there. However my saved game files are still on the cloud... Is there a way to convert the save files to a format that my PC can read?

I spent a lot of time painting everything in this game and don't want to lose my progress or find another Macbook just to play...

I don't think you need to convert any files,
you just have to figure out where they're located,
and maybe transfer to the appropriate windows based folder.

I'm actually playing on Linux, Ubuntu Distro.
But since Chicory doesn't have a native Linux OS version,
steam's proton emulator has to make a 'fake' sub-directory of folders
pretending to be on Windows.

It's complicated, but my point is,
if it's not 'converted' even on linux, then it's probably just mixed up file locations.
Maybe with this info I can help you figure out the location on yours?

First we need to figure out where they're locally saved on your comp via the cloud,
steam usually puts copies of cloud saved files here:

/home/COMPUTER NAME/.steam/debian-installation
/userdata/STEAM USER ID/1123450 <--

That's all one directory line, I split it up for ease of reading,
But that last line is most important.
So, you should try to find a directory similar to that one in your steam subfolder.
The 'Steam User ID' will be some big number instead, unique to each steam user.
'1123450' is the game ID # of Chicory on steam.

Now to figure out where you should probably move the files.
This is my proton emulator version of subfolders, but on windows should be similar:

/home/COMPUTER NAME/.steam/debian-installation
/steamapps/compatdata/1123450/pfx
/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/paintdog/save <--

Again, one directory line split up, but check out that last section again.
'paintdog' was the unofficial working name of chicory in development.
A directory similar to that is probably where you need to move your save files.
There should already be one existing with that name somewhere.
Try searching 'paintdog' on your computer if you can't find the cloud files too.

Hopefully this helps!

After individually downloading all 300+ save files from the cloud (I don't understand why Steam doesn't have a "download all" option for this!)
putting it in the "paintdog" folder as you pointed out, and getting frustrated at it not working, I tried this, thinking of what you mentioned of it not being "converted":

My save files on the cloud were named like this:
%MacAppSupport%com.greglobanov.chicory_save__playdata_backup

I got Bulk Rename Utility, checked "ignore file extension" and removed all instances of "%MacAppSupport%com.greglobanov.chicory_save" from my save file names

My game is working now :)

Thank you so much! I didn't think I'd get a response and you really helped me out! :)

Glad that worked out for you! I didn't consider there would need to be an extra step of editing and renaming files too, I guess that's just a mac to win specific thing.

Enjoy your Colorful Tale!
