The lantern is good?
I killed the peaceful giant (i don´t know if the name is correct) and it was much easier for me than with the weapon at the beginning

The Lanterns are very rewarding and work well with multiple traits thanks the shared focus on Resonance.
So yes, they are.
Especially the Burst Lantern is known for one-shotting* bosses.
*unless you count applying stacks two or three dozen times before detonating.

Can't say much about the Wisp one, but Burst and Attuning Lanterns are beyond good. Burst can deal an insane amount of damage (with a serious jump at 10 and even more at 30 stacks), and Attuning makes your parries *devastating*.

I started using them because I thought they would give the boss fights an interesting rhythm, since they kind of force you to really learn the boss so you can survive long enough to get a number of stacks worth using, and when I saw the damage I was doing I became a full-on believer in the RES religion.

I actually beat the Tinge of Terror secret boss just with the two lanterns, it was quite impressive.

Wisp lantern with Shaper can help when enemy moves too fast to keep up stacks or theres not enough hunt points to have all resonance damage skills well leveled.
It also lets do something nice with smaller mobs not worth 10+ burst stacks instead of just slaping them.
