Game you can casually pick up after some time..?
Is this a game better played start to finish like I should save time for it or is it one I can kind of casually pick up amongst the amalgam (see what I did there) of the games I play daily

I played about 2 hours of it, then reinstalled windows and I haven't reinstalled the game yet and was curious about this before I install it again

I'd say it's probably one you should play start to finish. I don't mean in 1-2 sittings ofc, my playthrough (granted I tried to explore and find as much as I could) just took 28 hours. But maybe at least play it for an hour or two a week, don't leave it alone for months or you'll forget what it is you're supposed to be doing and how you're supposed to be doing it. I have way too many games on indefinite holds (i.e. pretty much abandoned) from not touching them for too long.

Thankfully you don't have to wait to be at a savepoint to finish a session - you can exit wherever and whenever, and it'll save your progress (not sure how well that works if you're literally in the middle of a fight, as I haven't tried).

no not at all, imho its a great game but the lack of fast travel until very late / post game (DLC didnt help much here) makes for an extreme slog if you forget where to go or miss an upgrade / item and want to retrieve it

its a game you play through directly and maybe even immediately hit NG+ to see the boss changes, but im not quite there and not sure it holds up to direct NG+

Really? I thought I got the Warp ability around the half-way point, certainly no later than 2/3.

It was originally a post-game ability, but can now be gotten relatively early.

Oh, glad the change was made before I played it then :)

early is arguable and most players would find the Boss that gives warp a huge hurdle without proper upgrades. i would guess i discovered the Boss 75% through the game and only had it and two other Bosses left.

if you want spoilers and target the Boss early? sure...i guess

I beat said boss before doing Carven Palace, because I was hopelessly lost. I think you can reach it right after the 3rd mandatory boss.

Which is the 3rd mandatory boss? I always try to take all side routes I can before going on with the story, though it's hard to tell in this game sometimes which is which. Going by achievement unlocks, that was my 5th boss total: Weeper -> Silenced Whispers -> Watcher -> Scion -> Glare. Looking into it a bit, I think this means I defeated the boss before the 3rd mandatory boss, lol.

Well, Watcher is a miniboss achievement, but you still beat it before getting Feast. I thought you needed that boss ability to get there, but I guess I was wrong

Yup, I also have Jawcrab before feast.

You're probably better off playing it straight through. I feel like you could get lost or forget controls.
