M2 / arm based Mac black screen on startup
Hi! Excited to give the game a shot!

When on an M2 Macbook Air with macos 13.4 Ventura, the game seems to start and immediately hit a black screen. The music is playing, and the cursor seem to have the right texture but nothing else is there.

- I can't seem to find any similar issue in the discussion forum except for a thread where the resolution is too small.
- I found the config file and tried fiddling with lower resolutions like 1024x768, non fullscreen mode, disabling vsync etc to no avail
- I tried running the binary directly from the command line but there were no helpful log messages, just UnityMemory reporting some config options.

Is there any way I can gather detailed logging info for you?

Also there's no log file I can find under ..../Library/Application Support/com.strayfawnstudio.thewanderingvillage/ even though everything else is there

Just to rule a few more things out - verify files showed nothing interesting, nuking my settings folder and also uninstall / reinstall did not seem to help either

Hi Mali

Thanks a lot for the report! I tested the current version as well as the testing branch on my M2 macbook pro (Ventura 13.2.1) and it seemed to run as intended.

Thanks a lot for trying all these things to help us find the cause. The log files are located in a different directory (OSX is a bit fiddly with these things):

Library/Logs/Stray Fawn Studio/The Wandering Village/Player.log

I hope you'll find a file there. Please sent it to support@strayfawnstudio.com :)

Thanks a lot and cheers,
Markus

Hi Mali

Thanks a lot for the email. This is a very strange log, we haven't seen one of those yet.
According to your linked post in the email (and some other research search) it appears to be some bug from the OSX side (not from the game engine). Could you try to update your OSX to a higher sub-version of Ventura, for example 13.5.* or 13.6.*? https://support.apple.com/en-us/106337 Since the game runs properly on 13.2.1 (M2 macbook pro), it could be an issue solely to that OSX version + unity version combination. Let's hope this fixes it.

We'll keep an eye out on this issue, but at the moment I'm not sure how much we can do from our side. If you don't want to upgrade your system or it doesn't work after upgrading, please consider a refund for the game. We would love to help, but sometimes there's not much we can do to quickly fix such issues :/

Thank you for your help and cheers,
Markus

I didn't get a chance to upgrade OSX but I'm happy to report that with the new testing version, the issues seem to have been fixed! Perhaps it was the Unity version. The intro animations load and take me to the menu, and the game seems to play great! Hope this helps.

Hi Mali

Glad do hear the game works for you! Not sure what went wrong there, as we didn't change the Unity version in this update. But I'm happy to hear you're now able to play the game :)

Thanks for the report and cheers,
Markus
