Ethical stone mining

Is there a way to get more stone without digging out Onbu's spikes? I run out of the rocks on the ground too quickly

Research the quarry to harvest the big boulders and send scavenger outside.
Or wait, stones eventually respawn.

Just mine Onbu spike here and there and eh..pet and feed him and deal with the environmental problem for some time .
