Instead I just spread my fields and kitchen to cover the required areas.
More often that not, your Farms are centrally located? Your 'factories' are off to the side. In that case I'll put the Food centers along the periphery of Onbu.

- aside from two clumps of three Kitchens in the 'center', there are food stands around the periphery of Onbu

I normally pair a Kitchen with a food storage building (pantry or Granary). For around 5~6 of these 'pairs', I'll also put down a Food Stand next to them (Iron Rationing). So if the Stand runs out of food, there is the Pantry/Granary and regardless... the Kitchen is nearby ^_^
