When to increases villagers numbers and any other tips?
I have been playing for a bit and have some trouble with it. I think it is mostly with having too few or too many villagers. Too little and things don't get done in the time they need to be, and too much and they starve. So I wanted to ask when I should increase the number of people I have, like after something is built, and how many of a building I should have. Any other tips are welcome.

I say there's no reason not to increase your numbers. You'll always want more hands to handle more tasks. If food is the issue, then you need to prioritize food production before it becomes a problem. Instead of picking up another 4 mouths to feed and using them for random tasks, use them to run another farm, kitchen, or berry gathering station.

That's kind of the whole gameplay loop. Resource logistics and crisis control. Learning when and where to move your people to manage whatever is the current or upcoming problem.

First thing I do is look for the most efficient berry farm spot and have them build that. Then I place a farm and get beets started. Then air wells and water storage. Then tents. Work on unlocking wheat, mills, and bakeries as quickly as you can, and you'll never run out of food. I pick up everyone and have zero issues feeding them. As you get more people, add more farms and more berry farms.

You have never enough villagers, if you have food issues, build more farms/kitchens without forgetting to have enough water reserves.
I started having real food issues once I had no more space for farms on Onbu's back when I aimed for 500 villagers.

I always make sure I am producing more food than I am consuming before I take on more villagers. In the first few days of play this isn't super relevant, but as you get kitchens and have the option to scavenge for more villagers, just don't do it until you are consistently producing more than your villagers are consuming. The game is fairly balanced (as far as I can tell) on the neutral difficulty so this shouldn't be too hard.

Piperbird's suggestion above of rushing wheat/windmill/bakery is also very good. If you don't care about the food variety stat, you can have one wheat farm sustain an entire village of 100+ people.
