Thank you for the recommendation. As you said, we would love to convey a similar feel to Nausicaa. Big shoes to fill.
Some of our team saw the anime version of "Children of the Whale". Didn't read the manga though. When we were talking about the size of our creature Onbu (japanese verb ;) ) we remembered children of the whale as a good reference for how big the surface could be.
There's so much great content out there, very inspiring stuff :)
For the buildings our lead artist also took inspiration from the French artist Moebius. I'm not sure if Miyazaki and Moebius were friends (saw them in a documentary together), but I think the Nausicaa manga also took inspiration from his works?
Really interesting how everything is connected. I hope we can deliver an inspiring and interesting world to everyone :)
Good spot by the OP.
I'm not entirely happy with the artstyle though. You have those lovely buildings that are highly detailed and have rich textures, but the surroundings are pretty basic and generic, like the very simple trees with their cartoonish shapes and the "dead" ground without much detail. I think it doesn't look very "symbiotic", if you want to call it like that. The inhabitants stick out a lot, too. I'd definitely reduce the outlines and add some texture. But I guess most of that is work in progress anyway.
Soo... yeah. We don't know or see much yet, but it looks interesting so far. Keep it up! :)
I wonder if the game is going to incorporate the secret purpose of the spores, which is shown in the Nausicaä manga (but, unfortunately, not the anime). It could be a nifty long-term goal for the player, perhaps even a victory condition.
For the final release we plan to have more story available (form not yet clear). As for the reveal of the secret purpose of the spores and a victory condition - This is something I can neither confirm nor deny... ;)
