Unlocking party members

Can anyone tell me when I get my other party members?
I'd like to rush them first before doing a deep dive on the game mechanics, but the game is progressing rather slowly so far.

You unlock party members as the story progresses.

Yes, but I was wondering at which points they unlock.

It's annoying but there's no other way. You must progress the main story to get the two losers to join, and it'll take even longer to get the other three cooler/likable characters.

Yeah the better characters are definitely the ones who join later. Both more interesting designs and better rounded.

Lent is okay but Tao is mostly just annoying. I hope he's better in 2 since he's returning. Maybe he appeals more to the predominantly female Japanese fanbase?

Any indication how late they join? I don't want to invest too much into characters that will just end up on the sidelines anyway.

Eh, I like Tao. He's a bit whiny and easily scared, but why not? He's basically a kid going from hearing and reading stories to facing the monsters he's heard about. Even the "adult" characters in this game aren't really hardened fantasy heroes.

4th is about Mid-game, 5th is closer to late-game, 6th I THINK is totally optional, but is shortly after the 6th.

Tao is an amazing "Black Mage" style character. His debuffs and status effects are pretty much required for some of the harder bosses on higher settings.
