Mouse-Keyboard Controls are baffling.
So there are functions mapped to WASD, to IJKL, and Mouse. Do people in Japan have three hands?

Menus do not open or close with Esc or Enter. Menu selections are not mapped to Left Click or Space Bar. In fact, Space Bar seemingly does nothing.

Despite using WASD, I've yet to see a function for Q, E, R, CTRL, or T.

Camera is mapped 'somewhere' in the middle of the keyboard...as is a totally random "photo mode."

On top of all this bizzarre mapping, ALL in game prompts are given in Gamepad, so I'm left guessing what keys the game wants me to press for which functions.

I'm sorry, but this game is priced as a AAA Game, and these controls are inexcusable. For this price, the game should have at least 'normal' keyboard-mouse controls.

Did the devs just throw darts at a keyboard to decide which buttons did what?

AAA-Game price on PC = Keyboard and Moue should be supported in a sensible manner.

What they did here was throw darts at the keyboard and those were the keybinds.

Why the hell are you trying to play a JRPG on a keyboard? Do you eat sushi with a fork too? lmao

That analogy was bad and you know it.

Nah it's easy to play this game on keyboard without mouse, and yes with only two hands. Just remap all the stuff that is on ijkl to numpad. What I do is having walking on wasd and camera on 8(up) 4(left) 6(right) 2(down). 1 on numpad is my confirmation button (B button I think), 3 the cancel button (A), 7 is menu (Y) and 9 is items and whatever X does. Backspace for the overworld map, enter for start button and Q and E for R1 and L1 (changing between characters and E is running) and + and - on numpad for R2 and L2 respectively (also changing between characters as well as quick action; also camera zoom). This works pretty well because most of the time, you only need the numpad numbers anyway.
I did more or less the same thing for all RPGs that have separate walking and camera controls if they have bad mouse optimization.

Don't let anyone pull you down onto their level of using a controller if you cannot and don't want to have to afford one. I have played the entire Dark Souls series and even osu only on Mouse and Keyboard.

I usually just use an xbox controller since it works fine with steam.

You can also remap all of the keys to what ever you want if you prefer to use just keyboard. Mouse isn't really needed. The defaults follow Japanese game setting so it is strange if you aren't use to it. I think there are three different default settings that I come across in Japanese games. They make more sense when I break out my jp keyboard, but I am fine using a controller for this game.

These game were designed to be played with a controller. If you expect good mouse/kb support in japanese AA games, prepare to be frustrated.

How the boot of corporate Japan feels, guys? Honestly, the bar is in hell, yet you still manage to astonish with your groweling when YOU are being inconvenienced for SIXTY DOLLARS that YOU HAVE PAID for A GAME. And you paid it no matter where bcs most of jpn devs think that regional prices are a joke (literally only saw otome games being reasonably priced in my area) 🤡

Thank you so much, honestly, the only worthy comment here 💖

I agree, the port controls are very bad.

You bought a Koei Tecmo game....on PC...and expected decent keyboard controls? 90% of the time they do this bind the controller functions to the keyboard thing. If you buy a KT game, expect to be playing it with a controller. It's so much less of a headache than fighting with keybinding to make things sensible. It's been this way since they first ported a Dynasty Warriors game to the PC, and probably been like that even longer, but those were the first KT games I bought on PC.

Except that the store page says that keyboard and mouse are supported.

Koei is a big enough company that they can hire on an intern who has played a PC game before and knows what "normal" controls look like.

At the time of I originally posted this thread, they were selling this game at full price. Full price warrants full support.

If they didn't want to support the primary mode of control on PC (keyboard and mouse), then they should have either discounted the game or slapped a disclaimer on the store page.

I played FF9 on M&K. So playing JRPGs on M&K can be done. Why not here?

Those trying to give JRPG lectures on accepting controls.... uh, no... I have many JRPG games and none of them force stupid control schemes on you, in fact, they have reasonable KB-mouse controls and logical menus, and many are console conversions.

This game was a very very lazy console "conversion" and it is a disgrace to say it supports mouse and keyboard.

Thanks for the confirmation. I removed ryza and atelier games from wishlist due to their lousy kb&m support. And seems like they will not improve on this at all, so they will go to my ignore list now.
