Is it a good starting point to the atelier franchise?
I've always wanted to try an Atelier game but for whatever reason I never did, this one looks really pretty visually so I'm tempted to buy it, I only play on pc is this a good game to be my first impression with Atelier games, is there any other on Steam you would recommend about the others?

Thanks

yes, Atelier Ryza is already bestseller in Japan.

I recommend Atelier Sophie for English-speaking people.
Because it is a North American package.

English subtitles are supported in all atelier games.
Sophie is the first work in the Mysterious series.
Only Sophie and Firis have English dubbing.
There is no Atelier with English dubbing implemented since Gust became a division of Koei Techmo.

This is a good start point as it is a start of a new story series. Story references to other Atelier "series" should be limited.

So. I know nothing about this series but I got interested in this game for some reason so I wanted to ask to be completely clear: Are those games chronically linked or are them in the same universe but totally different? (something like persona(?))
I know it's pretty much the same question but in a "straight forward" way.

The Atelier franchise traditionally consists of a series of 2-3 parts. Different series have different worldviews and storylines. The previous work, Atelier Lulua, was the first in a franchise history to have a 4 part series. (Arland series)
It's not yet clear whether Atelier Ryza will be the start of a new series, but it has a different worldview and storyline than the existing series. Therefore, it is a good starting point.
Of course, past works are also wonderful. There are different combat systems and alchemy systems.

I'd actually recommend Rorona, Ryza or Ayesha over Sophie. Sophie isn't a bad game but it's fairly bland compared to a lot of the series. However, time management is more emphasized in Rorona so it might not be as friendly for a newcomer.

Also, you're completely wrong on that last point: Gust has been a division of KT since before Ayesha's release (the switchover is why Ayesha wasn't dual audio.) They only started cutting the dubbing with Lydie and Suelle due to the declining sales in that trilogy (they also really really cheaped out dubbing Firis and it showed.)

And yes that doesn't negate what I said at all. KT bought GUST during Ayesha's development.

Sophie and Firis both came out after 2014 and had a dub.
