Currently your best bet is to load up a hex-editor tool, open your save file and change the values manually.
Gold and XP are both 4-byte values. XP can be found by searching for the hex address 434, and gold can be found at 484. Be mindful how high you set those values, if it gets too large then it'll overflow into negatives or 0.
Anyways, yeah you could use Cheat Engine, you're just searching for the amount you have, change that value by using some points, then searching for the new value. The datatype should be 4 byte.
