Drain the Basement?

On the dev notes, there's an update where they say the basement now floods after the third tape, but you can drain it by destroying crates. Has anyone actually been able to confirm this? From their description, I thought it drained if you just destroyed every flammable crate in the building. But as best I can tell, I've done that. Then I thought maybe they meant the two crates blocking your path in the water downstairs. But there's no way to break those as far as I can tell. They hinted at a huge reward if you pull it off, so I'd like to know more.

I drained the basement after Lucas's tape. Once you're wading into the basement, it's pretty obvious what you have to do - just destroy all the blockages and keep working your way forward.

EDIT: there is definitely a way to break them. Remember to use your pistol, flare gun, and pills!

Got it! I hadn't thought to shoot slightly above the crates. Once I figured that out, everything else flowed pretty smoothly and I got through it quickly (actually got through it twice since my dumb ass shot the last crate from point blank the first time lol). The reward wasn't too useful since I'd already done 100% on everything else, but it still feels nice to finally be past this one thing.
