Rain Lag (Spoilers?)
For whatever reason, my framerate tanks down to somewhere under 30 whenever I'm in the rain. Just having the rain effect doesn't seem to be enough to trigger it, I have to actually be in the rain. So the Thanatos sequence on the ship exterior, and the bits Lucas' story that I've been through have been borderline unplayable. At any other point I can max out the video settings and the game will run fine (barring holding the mirror shard up), but even setting everything to low only seems to have a modest effect on performance in these rainy areas.

For what it's worth, I'm playing the game through Proton, but It shouldn't make that much of a difference. My CPU is getting old but it's above the minimum spec. My gpu is a 2060. I have 16 GB of RAM and the game is installed on an SSD.

I no framerate issues at all in the rain. While my CPU is a Ryzen5 3600 and graphics card a
Radeon RX5700XT, they are not even under much load.

What version of Proton do you use, do you know about GroriousEggroll's custom Proton (which is what I use)?
Have you ever heard heard about MangoHUD? It's a game overlay that can shows system load and CPU temperature.

I'm using Proton 7.0rc3 GE-1.

I have MangoHUD installed but I don't have it active for this game at the moment. I will try running the game with it enabled and see what's having trouble.

Edit: Not 100% sure what happened but the lag is mostly gone and my settings reverted to all ultra? I set the launch options for the game to include both MangoHUD and gamemode. My GPU likes to sit in the high 90s (percent usage, not temperature) and around 60 FPS in Lucas' story, regardless of where I'm at. Holding up the mirror shard still causes my framerate to tank and I can see RAM usage jump up when using it for the first time in a session.

I just use 6.21-GE-2. I mean using an (even late) beta version might cause problems.

Hmm, switching back to 6.21 GE-2 doesn't seem to make a difference.

That being said, I did find out that the TurboLag only seems to happen if I die during the current session. If I don't die at all then the issue doesn't seem to manifest. Could be a memory leak or redundant allocation of resources upon reloading a save.
