Epic game account why? Really why?

Hmm just picked it up last night was going to have the wife pick it up and play but idk now.

I didn't have any issue. My friend invited me and it loaded right in a few minutes ago. Joined through ID last night.
Did you try a direct invite or just the session ID?
Were you playing before and this issue just started or if it's the first time, could your friend have accidentally bought it there?

It worked just fine without Epic account. I just invited my Steam friends, they joined and it worked.

Never had a issue before with a friend until now. Did the awful epic thing and it worked straight away so........................................The session code and join refused to work without epic account. Hate it all.

An epic account is not required. Although if you are having issues then it could be related to the EOS SDK, 1 solution is to connect to your epic account. However there are a few other fixes to this as well.
You can also do the following

Open steam, right click on the game and go to properties
Go to the installed files tab and then browse

here you will see a file called "InstallEOSServices"
Can you double click on that to run it and then click yes on any notification you may get to allow it to modify files or make changes

You should have been more on the ball with this problem as im not happy at all.

And no the game refused to work in coop without epic so you need to check your game.
