pigs die a lot?
so i had about 3 adult pigs (m F F) and both females were preggers. i had about 4-6 piglets running around. i feed them each day and at that point had 2x feed troughs and one water.
i woke up and one female was dead, noticed some were hungry so i put more food in both troughs and went to buy more food. i get back and the other female was dead and so was 3 piglets. :(
i collect the meat and sell it. buy 2 female pigs, get them back home when it was dark and the other pigs were asleep so put them in the pen noticed they still had food and water and went to sleep.
woke up and the 2 new pigs were dead but there was still food in the trough.
a few days pass while im earning money. by this time one of the pigs was a bit bigger and noticed it was a 2nd male so i took out the big male and sold the meat so i can go buy steel and concrete, build the big feed silo.
check the troughs were within the coverage zone of the silo. fill silo with food. but again had another pig die.

the pigs are in a fenced in area thats about 2x the size of the standard concrete garage you get the UTV from. it seems like pigs just wander around aimlessly and its pure luck if they bump into a food trough and eat as ive seen one a little while ago that was almost starving and i tried leash it and take it to the food trough, as soon as i remove the leash it just turns and walks away.
i know the troughs work as sometimes animals eat from it and i have to refill it.

because of the way they dont always look for food trough surely if they do happen to get hungry they shouldnt just cark it instantly, and it should just slowly come off their health bar instead.

Its a save glitch. On a morning when you load into the game sometimes the pigs have got stuck and die but if you quit out and reload all the pigs will be fine again no dead ones. This works for me and no dead issues lately. The pigs eat and drink fine no issues just keep the feed hoppers away from fences as pigs can climb out. All animals will eat and drink when they need it so dont worry. Make sure you have no "trap areas" that could cause animals to get stuck ie small doors etc or badly positioned fences or hoppers. If animals get stuck obviously they will starve. Ive had no deaths lately so the advice works.

cheers for the tip, its a kind of large oval shaped pen, with food and water in the middle and apart so animals dont get stuck between or around them.

My pigs keep dying too - but just my females. I had a large barn surrounded by fences and had to make another barn with enclosed pen with a gated corridor to separate the males and females as the population was getting out of hand. Now though, I just literally lost 3 adult females to starvation but there is 4 food toughs and 4 water troughs. I muck them out every day, and run around them making sure they are fed and watered but it is no use they just perish. I drag them to food. Even made a small 4x4 enclosure with food and still they just die. It is very annoying, when they were all together to mate to oblivion like rabbits they did not die.... Is there a border and the new barn just outside my ranch which is causing this? do they stop eating if they don't get pregnant regularly? are they old? Do i need to be around them for them to manage? I play alone and It is not possible to just be idle in the pig ben when 40 chickens just laid, I have many cows to milk, beef to ball, a greenhouse to fertilise and I have not even started on the new agriculture fields. If they are just going to perish because I am elsewhere for too long then this is a major flaw in the game!

Can something be done to make them more aware of their needs and seek out refreshments to avoid death regardless of where you are?

Can they also have their "hit box" reduced. I know they are big boys BUT they do get themselves stuck trying to pass each other and can not get out of the side doors, I have had a few get wedged there and die. Those are closed now, just the large barn doors open.

The size of the pen and area they can move in will depend on how many animals you can have. Just as a real farm you have to keep the herd of whatever animal your raising at a limit.
Pigs will breed fast and if they run out of food may not recover. The number of feeders and water need to be available for the amount you want to keep.

I have some of the same issues with the pigs dying and the feed is there they aren't stuck it is like they starved to death with full granaries and troughs. I had this happen so much I just stopped buying pigs. But I have noticed it with my milk goats and milk cows. I have no idea what is going on. So far haven't see it with my chickens. I add granaries so that I have a cross cover but that doesn't see to help. Maybe the granaries aren't working right.

Bug in hopper ,delete hopper and rebuild it.

By hopper are you referring to the granary (big holding tank for grain)? or feed trough?

I still feel it area people. When the herd gets to big for the area they have to move around you get mass die offs. I have had it with chickens also. If you see a quick increase in herd size then thin it down more than you think you have to. I have lost a large herd of pigs also.. taking them to market of slaughter them down to just a few.
