Different Saves?
Hey!

Recently bought the game... spent a solid 8 hours on the game so far... all in one day. I was going to support allowing us to have more than 1 saved game? I think it would benefit a lot... have a legit kind of save then a maybe more laid back kind of safe? Would allow people to try out different things on different saves without having to create new games?

If this is already a thing and I'm just scared to click "new game" then please correct me lol!

If u click "new game" u will lose your earlier game. Thats really terrible.
You cant play a game with friends and if they are not online u cant play a other one :(

Yeah, hopefully they add new save slots so we can have more than 1 save at anyone time! I posted a suggestion on their discord server! :)

In Drive:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Ranch_Simulator\Saved rename the folder SaveGames (for example SaveGames_Ranch1) and start a new game.
I have 4 saved games and can play them all. Simply rename the desired saved game in SaveGames

That works, however I'd like to see it within the game... not me making folders for it.

You really only need to copy / rename the one file to create a backup of your games.

Here is some information by Ambreon [developer], who lays out how to backup game saves:

Hello, to invite a player please enter your game and once in you can invite them either by pressing ESC to open the menu, and selecting Invite Friend. Or pressing Shift+Tab to open the Steam overlay, going to your friends list and inviting them there. Both you and your friend will need a decent internet connection.

Only the host has the save file on their machine but if you invite them every time you play then you'll be able to play together on that save.

At this stage we don't have separate save game slots, so if you want a different save for multiplayer then you can use this method:

The save file (ranchsave_1.sav) is located in: AppData\Local\Ranch_Simulator\Saved\SaveGames

To access this location, you can do the following:

- Press the windows key and R together to open the run command
- type in %appdata%/../local/Ranch_Simulator/Saved/SaveGames and press OK

Here if you rename ranchsave_1 to ranchsave_1_MP or something like that, then you can create a new game for single player.

If you want to switch back to multiplayer, rename your singleplayer game ranchsave_1_SP and name your multiplayer game back to ranchsave_1.

The game will load whichever save is called ranchsave_1, and will ignore anything else. So if you rename your saves then you can store them and just name them back when you're ready to play them again.

Hope this helps!

Odd, I have made copies of this file as a backup of a previous game, but was then able to return to that game later, by renaming it back to its original name.

I made a python script that zips the current save file up, and deletes the files so the only option is to start a new game. When you make a new game and have a save file, the script will put the new game save into a zip file, and delete the files from the save folder (not the zip), and unzip the older save file.

Just a method of switching saves until something is built in.
