The same principle applies to wild meat, if you make sure to sell on a good multiplier, (from 1.6 to 2.0) and you've been hunting proficiently, you can make a nice amount of starter money to keep your grain cost going.
In general, your main aim should be to get a grain silo and some food trays for said pigs going as soon as possible, and try to capitalize on good multipliers.
You can carry 2 pigs with your starter vehicle
@Affinity Thanks for advices
I've personally found that the main bottleneck in terms of cash early on, specially for pig handling, tends to be having to buy so many bags of grain, since the silo makes the grain cheaper, it's a must have to sustain your economy
Regarding pigs, also remember to let them be for at least 1 day after they fatten up completely, since that will give you a good chance of getting small piglets for free if you purchased a female and male
If you are really trying to re-roll for the burguer multiplier, make sure to buy a Sleeping bag in the hardware store and place it next to the burger place, since it will make reloading much faster if you sleep there the day before
Another small tip, is to focus on getting 1 cow for your 2nd or 3rd wave of pigs, or by the time you can afford a meat mincer and a sausage stuffer, since assuming you have some eggs going on the side, it will let you make sausages with milk and eggs, which you can boil with the portable cooker from the hardware store in boiling water, or just dry if you built a home
Goes without saying, moving the cow you purchased by walking is a good alternative to getting a vehicle just for that
I had to sell a lot of planks to get through the early game and limit the number of chickens by selling the rooster, as the chicks eat so much feed to grow big enough to sell, and eggs aren't worth very much.
Once i got a cow and starting making cheese in the garage though it all came together. I had to lead the cow from the shop over the hill to my barn by the garage. Getting a little metal early on was crucial to build a cheese cupboard in the garage and I used a portable camp stove to cook it. Blue cheese is very profitable and cows don't eat as much as a load of chickens.
Then I bought a meat grinder, a pot and a saugage maker, metal for a meat cupboard and a cow. Shot that cow at the parking lot of the store, brought the meat (9 pieces per cow) back to the farm, made salami and sold those at the Burger Shop with an multiplicator of at least 1.8.
One piece of beef costs 72,23$ (650/9), a beef salami is worth 85$. So the profit per cow is 115$ without multiplicator. After a while I built more cupboards and bought coolers and more cows, to raise the profit per day.
Repeat that untill you have enough money, no need for food or water, so no expenses during that period.
I saved up enough to build the granery, the watermill and buy some animals, never needed to buy a bag of food or water or chop down trees to sell the planks.
Unfortunately the Granary is broken. I've already posted about this elsewhere in the forum. I worked very hard for several days to be able to afford the materials, got it built and it does not refill any of the troughs (4 of them) within it's "green" range. I filled the Granary when I built it and even after I click it to refill the troughs it stays at 200/200 and the troughs are still empty. I remembered having this issue before in EA, but I had thought it had been fixed or I wouldn't have worked so hard to get it right now, LOL! Ahhh well, my Windmill is about 40 metal shy of being complete, and that will help since I have buy my water because I cannot use the well.
Almost all of my income has come from a starter flock of chickens (2 roosters, 3 hens) and wonderful pigs (I started with 1 male and 2 sows and now have a healthy herd of 14!) I keep one adult male and 2 adult sows and just fatten up the babies to "go to market". I've only done deer and bear hunting when I absolutely had to because I like the "rancher" aspect of this game more than the "hunting" aspect. It is very slow going, but oh so rewarding!! I love this game!
