I did this drawing just like this guy but for some reason the game doesn't accept my yellow ellipse.. Any idea how do I get through this part?

I got the exact same problem. Made that ellipsis a good 100 times, the game never accepted it.

There can be a problem drawing ellipses on wide-screen monitors.

I had to search online to find this answer, but it did eventually work. Try drawing the ellipse about 3 streets past the right hand point (a lot wider than the walkthroughs and videos show) and Holmes will approve it so you can move onto the compass. That, I had no issue with.

Taking melmo1313's advice, I got it to work by setting the right edge of the yellow ellipsis about halfway between the right-bottom crime scene and the major north-south street on the map.

I also tried this part of the game like 100 times in sheer frustration. I followed the link for this post, since I have a widescreen monitor and these instructions worked the first time! Thanks for the heads up :)
