Why is the driver's seat on the wrong side?
This is destroying my immersion. Also it takes way too long to reach the mailboxes unless I drive on the wrong side of the road to compensate.

And on the same subject, the steering controls for reverse are flipped.

You probably want to get a Mac. Yeah the drivers seat is on the wrong side, I think that's a pretty long standing observation actually, the idea of the game, is not to be a mail simulator, but to be dealing with a job that you are not familiar with, tools and so on that are like home but aren't really who you are. The unease is part of the story telling picture, although it is frustrating when it's a game. I just drove on the wrong side of the road, our local postie does it often enough.
The driver's seat in a US Postal Service (USPS) truck is typically located on the right side of the vehicle. This is because most mailboxes in the United States are located on the right side of the road, and having the driver's seat on the right allows the postal worker to deliver mail without having to get out of the vehicle every time.

I'm not even from the US and I knew this.

Indeed, which is why the postal truck in this game being left-hand drive is both so immersion breaking and so unnececessarily tedious, making you walk around the vehicle to deliver to mailboxes. (It's even worse because I'm a former postal carrier.)

I mean, it's only really immersion breaking for someone like you. For 99% of other players who weren't postal carriers, it's not a big deal.
actually it was also a puzzler for non-posties who know how some things on the other side of the pond function
You don't play many games that take place in the USA, do you? The left side is the drivers side here.

Not in a mail truck it isn't.
US mail trucks are right hand drive if they're of a smaller scale. The type of truck you use in this game is more of a distribution truck than a personal route type of truck.

The flaw with the truck isn't that the steering wheel is on the wrong side, it's that the truck is not what a USPS carrier would use for their every day mail route.
