Save games are not compatible between Steam and Xbox, but maybe Steam and Xbox on PC would work?
I'll ask the team!
(In the meantime, feel free to try it yourself of course - there is a chance your save games will show up in the Xbox on PC version right away.)
I finished the demo on Steam then installed the full game through the Xbox app on PC. When I first started it up I had the option to Continue, but then the Xbox login overlay popped up, did its thing, and the Continue option disappeared along with my save files so I guess it synced an empty profile and wiped them.
Maybe pasting Steam demo saves into the right folder after playing the Xbox app version at least once would work, I'm happy to try if a finished demo save file is available somewhere.
The Xbox on PC version (through retail or Game Pass) are not compatible with either - not only is the save game folder different, the save game file format is different too.
Practically speaking - if you play the demo on Steam, you'll have to start over when you play on Xbox (on PC).
Hope that clears things up!
