System.Reflection messing with some of the mods I have.
I don't know what system.reflection is but it makes mods have the "potentially harmful code" thing, and I don't know if I can trust re-subscribing to that mod. If someone can tell me if the system.reflection is just safe and PPG is just being weird, or it's actually dangerous.

There seems to be a lot of confusion around what System.Reflection does.

It is a namespace that provides functionality to invoke code that is normally inaccessible. To put it plainly, it allows a mod to do everything. It bypasses every safeguard and every boundary you'd normally expect a mod to have. For example, it allows a mod to:

- Create, edit, and remove any file on your computer
- Read your browser history
- Install other programs
- Open any webpage, download anything
- Affect other mods, even providing them the same power
- Stay enabled even if you have it disabled

And so on.

HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that it is only used for these malicious purposes. It also helps modders to change more fundamental parts of PPG, which tends to be necessary for large, complicated, and fun mods. There is no easy way to determine what a mod is doing with System.Reflection, so please be careful, but don't dismiss it as malicious unconditionally.

It is very unsafe in fact malicious, I don't know much about how it works but I do know it allows them to do some very not good stuff (I recommend getting the mod FROM the original creator)

Thank you. It's just that I'm incredibly confused because almost every "new" mod I get from the Steam Workshop, has this system.reflection thing.

DO NOT ACCEPT ANY MODS THAT HAVE SYSTEM.REFLECTION. system.reflection can create and open files that can have code that can basically do anything a .exe file can do. basically system.reflection latches onto people playground and creates files that can have bad code in it so ppg becomes a virus. yes system.reflection can be safe and just used to do really complicated things, but i wouldn't risk it as it has the power to damage your computer.

these two are yapping.
excerpt from microsoft:
"Contains types that retrieve information about assemblies, modules, members, parameters, and other entities in managed code by examining their metadata. These types also can be used to manipulate instances of loaded types" I don't script but from what i can tell its essentially just a tool to load information, nothing to worry about.

system.reflection is used in mods which do little youtube popups (example 01 studios)
so were safe to use these mods?
Yippee! Jun 19, 2024 @ 10:33pm
yes, its very safe to use mods with system.reflection things in them, it is mostly just used to get some info on the computer to do something with the mod, mods with the pop up in them come up with system.reflection so they can put links to their websites and stuff, and can also be used to get like the pc name, the time, which is relevant to some mods.

What about system.security and Directory? Some of the mods I used to use have that marked and I'm a bit weirded out by it
Everyone ist panicking, I dost not knoweth why. Every "System reflection" containing mod I have doesn't do anything bad, and I have loads!
